The first PC uses a newer amd cpu but the hardware is not great. The second PC uses an older CPU but has some nice hardware. One problem I see with the second PC is that it won't bitstream HD audio.

Another option is to get a slim Dell with an i3. I think you should be able to get one for under $500. I know you said you didn't want to build a PC but have you seen the mini computer from Intel? They're called Intel NUC and cost about $300 for a kit.

I saw you listed my HTPC for sale and I will say it plays 1080p rips perfectly and quickly from my WD 3TB Red drives in Raid 1 in combination with the actual HTPC hardware. Maybe that will be helpful for anyone else in the future looking for a cheaper build like I was.

Hey I thought your HTPC was great ,but after asking around some have advised against it. I am still on the fence.

Well I'm certainly no HTPC expert but I really liked my cheap build.
- Boots in a good time
- Movies play perfectly and they start quickly
- I use WMC and there is no lag running through the menus

Like I said for me it works great but certainly no high end beast!smile.gif
