It's not fair if they don't sing country.

But I know that's not gonna happen as long as the ratings cow is getting milked .. the Fall season is chock full of stuff I'd like to try on top of my regular shows ..

I absolutely hate these "talent" shows that chew up multiple nights and 4 or even 5 primetime hours a week, but my wife is addicted to a couple of them including this one. I've even sometimes seen them run 6 hours over 3 nights! I stopped watching DWTS a few seasons back for that very reason. There oughta' be a law restricting how much prime-time real estate these shows can monopolize. mad.gif

Maybe it's just personal preference, but not one single contestant in 4 hours of show this week made me think "Wow, they are incredible."

Sure, there were good singers, but none that blew me away.

I have to agree .. I did like the albino guy that sang the Al Green tune, but he went home oddly enough .. I thought he was better than several others that stayed .. I did not think that Kaley Cuoco's sister was all that good but she landed a spot ..

I wasn't sure which one of them was actually auditioning as the camera seemed to be on Kaley more than her sister. rolleyes.gif

If I were a conspiracy theory guy, I'd be saying .. if Kaley begins to appear on the show "in support of her sister" .. well, fill in the blanks .. tongue.gif

The thirteen year-old girl with the big voice and freaky voice coach eek.gif has an undeniably strong voice if you like that sort of thing.

For a 13 year old, yes .. although on the big notes, she was stretching .. some good coaching and she could do well ..

Still shaping up so far to be pretty ho-hum talent wise, at least IMO .. no big standouts .. they are probably saving them for next week ..

Another season where the Rockers don't seem to have much representation ..

Adam seems to be building a fairly solid team ..
I think Preston, guy who sang the MGMT song, was the standout for me. That and the very last singer that Adam got. But does it matter. Adam got that one standout last season and she got booted.

It also feels like Blake has a roster of 20 people. Every time there's a choice it seems like people go with Blake.

As much as I hate to admit it, because that's the music I want to hear, rock on these shows seems to be dead.

Yeah, with 3 wins under his belt, I guess everyone thinks they stand a better chance with him. I just hope he doesn't show his Country bias again in the Battle Rounds and only advance those type of artists like he did last season.

Yep, even though a guy like Daughtry has had a great degree of success .. I know Rock may be the least financially attractive format these days, and it's tough to get airplay and promotion, but Creed, Nickelback and others prove that the market is there ..

I feel like Voice and others are simply swaying toward what they believe is the most commercially viable material .. which, I can't really blame them for, since that's the way the music biz has always been ..

If Rock was King right now, all we'd see is Rock

Instead, we see a steady stream of .. well, you know what we see a steady stream of ..

The rebellious nastiness that is a core part of rock is a big turnoff for family television. Without that any attempt at rock is empty posturing. With it, hands bolt for the remote. Besides, nobody listens to rock for the voices singing it; it is the attitude that carries the genre. A good voice there is a detriment.

Yep, the kid who was the son of the famous tajano singer may have been good, but he totally turned me off, prompting me to switch over to something else while he continued his screaming. I'm old enough to like my rock with a little more roll.

Ok so I just watched the blind auditions highlights show. Next season, if there is one, I'm skipping all the blind auditions and watching just this one. It cuts out all the CONSIDERABLE fat.

Yet crotch grabbing and "twerking" seem to have some sort of following .. tongue.gif

Nobody listens to Rock because of the vocals and a good voice is a detriment .. .. ?? Really .. ?? Freddy Mercury, Robert Plant, Bon Scott, Ronnie James Dio to name a few, would probably disagree ..

I gotta agree with that . . biggrin.gif

So, based on what I actually watched and by looking at the list of finalists on the website, I'm ready to make my early predictions. I added one more category from my original list.

1) Cute Country girl - Olivia Henken (Team Christina)
2) Girl with the small, mousey voice that makes Blake turn without ever hearing a full word come out of her mouth - Holly Henry (Team Blake)
3) The not mainstream looking person (i.e. Nick, Michelle Chamuel, etc.) that gathers a huge following because of their quirkiness - Caroline Pennell (Team CeeLo)
4) The token duo - None actually made it which surprises me.
5) The token male heartthrob that makes all the teenyboppers squeal uncontrollably even though they usually can't sing to save their life - I'm torn between two. Matt Cermanski (Team Adam) and George Horga, Jr. (Team CeeLo)
6) Token heavy girl that has a powerful voice and will undoubtedly be compared to Adele (and even end up singing one of her songs) - Shelbie Z. (Team Blake)

I have to say, I expected the choices to be easier. I had to stretch for a couple of them. Maybe this season will be different.

Too early for predictions from me because honestly, I don't remember a single contestant at this point. smile.gif

The most surprising thing of the season so far is that Cher will serve as an adviser to Blake Shelton. I didn't see that coming, and still don't see it!

Especially considering she'd likely have not made the cut as a contestant even in her prime ..

I'm interested to see now she looks under lights in HD .. they will probably use a soft focus lens .. tongue.gif

yeah, at this point it is difficult to recall all the contestants. however, i do know one of the contestants from another singing reality show. that would be josh logan who is on team christina. he was on rock star supernova back in 2006. he's fairly good and went pretty far in the competition as i suspect he will in this competition. very surprising he went with christina rather adam. one of his better performances from rss:

I liked that show because it actually focused on rock singers. biggrin.gif

I was flipping thru channels yesterday evening and stopped on "X-Factor" just out of curiosity for maybe 20 minutes .. I had not watched any of it after the first few episodes of Season One since I just could not stand it ..

Seems to me they are copying some parts of Voice .. same look to the stage, utilizing some sort of weird sit in the chair elimination for the contestants .. 4 "mentors" now .. a Latino on the panel ..

Granted, I only gave it 20 minutes, but it looked like a load of fabricated BS .. not much in the way of real sincerity that I say . .

Caroline has that same quality that Shakira called one girl, last season, diaphanous. They made a mistake losing that girl last season, I think. Except Caroline also has some power. I think she's going to be here to the end.

Surprised no one stole Timyra too. Had to go to the voice website to find that spelling...

Funny, the girl last season was named Caroline.

Some very good good talent on the show but how about Christina this season? She looks great. When she tones down her makeup, you get to see how really pretty she is. She also is dressing like a real adult this year, keeping the "twins" under wraps much more. Whoever is giving her styling/fashion advice now is worth every dollar.

it's not just the toning down of her makeup. and the weight loss. she's also had some "work" done. but yeah, with all that and the better styling, she does indeed look good.

Since the first two battle rounds have come and gone .. I'm getting a little better feel for the talent .. so ..

Damn, I liked Timyra .. the girl could flat belt it out can I get an Amen .. eek.gif .. why she did not get stolen that night is a mystery to me .. yes, Amber deserves to be there too, but just using the logic of : Timyra is what, 15 .. ?? She's got the pipes and she flat out blows away last years winner, Dannielle what's her name .. wink.gif .. who was also a young person and won IMO by the voting demographic and a few side plays by Blake ..

Nic .. lose the nose ring, man .. I hate those things .. it looks like something is hanging out of your nose .. because something IS hanging out of your nose ..

Justin Chain .. (who if he ever breaks into the big time will not need to change his name to anything, I mean Justin Chain .. ?? ) .. seemed stiff and likely because of his accident .. had he been more animated, I think he would have had a better shot .. he looks Country, he can sing Country and IMO was better than the Swon Bros lead singer from last year ..

Hint to CeeLo : Anthony outsang Caroline .. I get why you picked her .. she's got the only voice of it's kind this season .. buy she's just not a great singer .. sorry man

I love Tessanne .. good choice, Adam .. don't get me wrong, as an old school Soul fan, Donna did a great job as well .. but there is just something about Tessanne ..

"House of the Rising Son" was the first radio play song I ever learned to play on the guitar back in probably 1964 .. I liked Braina and Jacquie's take on it .. and I went in thinking .. "Really ..?? Christina is going to dust that thing off .. ??" .. Jacquie could very well have a strong shot this season ..

"I don't just sit on my ass and punch little buttons." .. no, but you do have an incredible plastic surgeon and makeup person .. but, damn, girl .. you do look good ..even at 110" in HD ..

Kat snarled, let the attitude fly, and just plain owned it .. Steven Tyler should hire her to sub in Aerosmith now that his voice is going from bad to worse ..

Hint to Blake .. "Some Kind of Wonderful" was not a great pick .. out of all the songs, in all the World .. myself, I thought Monika took it, but at least CeeLo stole her ..

All in all, a great couple of Battle Rounds .. other than Carson sounding at times like he was doing an infomercial .. "The preachers son that works in a bagel shop .. " .. I guess "Total Request Live" just sticks with you .. wink.gif
post #59 of 228
Last year's winner, Danielle Bradbury, will be singing at the Grand Ole Opry next month.
Just wanted to add that Monika is smokin' hot. That means she'll be eliminated in the Knockout rounds. frown.gif
