Resurrection of the Anarchy woofer.......in 4 Ohms!

As we all know from the website, Exodus and DIY Cable are (sadly) closing down. The Anarchy woofer/subwoofer that Kevin designed is really something special, and I was hoping it wouldn't go away. So I've been talking with him for a while to see if it was okay for us to somehow keep the Anarchy in production. I'm happy to say that Kevin has agreed to let me keep this little beast going. This should be great news for the DIY guys. biggrin.gif

The Anarchy has always been an 8 Ohm woofer. But after talking to a few others, I've decided that a 4 Ohm model might be a good idea to get made up. Obviously it can be used as a subwoofer, so a standard sub amp will work perfectly. They can also be used in a MTM design or tower speaker and give an 8 Ohm load. Seems like a win win situation. Of course everything will be exactly the same as the current Anarchy. Same manufacturer, same molds, same parts, everything. Just an ohms change.

I contacted the manufacturer and they will be getting some prices together. They said it's been a little while since the last order, so of course prices have changed. But I still believe they will be priced okay. Having said that, in the next week or so I will be putting up a preorder just like we did with the SEOS project. Hopefully that will help make things easier.

Yes, there will be Anarchy tapped horn flat packs made up. I will also do my best to get some really nice speakers designed around these woofers once they're here. In the end, the DIY community should have some more gear to work with, and another shot at keeping this woofer around.

I think everyone here knows Kevin is a man of his word and a genuinely good person. He's given me permission to do this, but obviously isn't going to want a bunch of emails asking about this woofer or project. So let's try to keep any questions in this thread.

That's great news Eric. Kevin was very helpful when I built my ottoman with the Mal-21.

Great news!

Will 8 Ohm still be available? Just asking since it seems several people recommend using more than one for tapped horn setups. Was thinking about those wanting two for a final 4ohm load.

I have no idea how erich is able to accomplish as much as he does. He should write a book.

Seriously. Eric is like the Superman of DIY audio.

+1. Music to my ears. Really looked forward to those tapped horn kits.

Tremendous option for smaller HT setups using Overnight Sensation LCRS (in a smaller sealed/ported config) or even small horns for more output at the cost of a little space. Thanks Erich!

Do you have TS params? A small, 20Hz FLH might be a good option for it if it measures well for folks with smaller systems that want to dig low, but not too loud.

This is awesome!

Its also a nice driver for car usage, and 4ohm version will make it even better for that.

Hey Eric, glad to see these made their way back. I contacted Kevin shortly after you did and he advised me that he was already working with someone to transition the rights. I would have loved to carry them under our brand but I'm just happy to see they are available.

Don't want to cloud this thread but is there any chance you could resurrect the MalX and or the TempestX as well Erich? I sincerely believe they are great contributions to the DIY community just like the Anarchy. I also wish Kevin the best for all he has done.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for any other drivers.

That would be awesome he Erich could revive the entire Exodus XBL2 lineup, but I would be happy with just the Anarchy and Shiva X. Lots of great 15-18" subs but not many that are as capable as the Shiva and so versatile, efficient, clean and low distortion and works in a number of different enclosure types.

Last I remember Kevin mentioned to me in an email when I purchased one of the last final run Shiva's (single 4ohm) that an OEM/builder was using it in a commercial offering.

Right now I think we should just focus on the 4 Ohm Anarchy and see how it all works out. biggrin.gif

The manufacturer did say that raw material prices have gone up since the last time they were ordered, but he was going to get me the new quote soon. Hopefully this week.

Dual anarchies under a seos 12? I'll take 4. That would be perfect for my surround and height speakers!

Or even better, dual Anarchy woofers under a SEOS 15.

How about the doors in my Tundra!

I bought the 8-ohm versions while they were on sale ($50 each) but I will need to modify my door panel and build enclosures since there is no way in hell they will fit with just a baffle. I already tried! I've got Dayton RS180-4's in the doors now but I plan on selling the Anarchy 8ohm pair that I have, building the enclosures to the specs of the Anarchy and use the RS180 until the 4-ohm Anarchy comes out.

The dual Anarchy woofers under a SEOS is definitely one design that will be done.
Any idea what the efficiency will be? 87.7 db/w for a pair in series?
I want to do a design........

This is GREAT news.

I cannot wait until the flat packs are available once again.

I am not familiar with these woofers. Can someone please give us new guys the low down on these? What sizes do they come in? How do they compare to other woofers from the likes of Dayton and AE?

These are 7" woofers using XBL2 motors and high excursion.

Very good sub bass distortion performance, and the capability to pound. 3rd HD at 1.5 khz isnt ideal. A 2 way is definitely possible, but seems better suited for the bottom of a 3 way.
