Is burlap by itself enough to wrap Roxul RHT 60

Wondering if burlap by itself will allow fibers to escape from acoustic panels, I was thinking may need to cover with a tighter (not sure if "tighter" is correct term) fabric first but not sure?

thanks

Burlap is too porous IMO, not to mention the material is ugly. The panels will constantly be hanging on your wall, so depending if you care about your room's aesthetics go with something color coordinated as you'll forget the extra $50 you spent once a few days pass, but the better aesthetics you'll keep reminding yourself constantly when you look at them. I was able to find a cotton fabric that is tighter than burlap but thin... once I held it up to light I could easily see through it.

Last time I looked in the local fabric store, they were selling heavy felt for the about the same price as burlap. Seems like a better choice both for appearance and for capturing fiberglass shed.

It is best if the fabric covering is fire resistant. Some burlap smells like it has absorbed some mineral oil, and that's running the exact opposite direction.

Products like this really work:

We applied a product like this to felt by cutting the felt to size, saturating the felt with the fire retardant liquid and then putting it through a spin cycle in our washer, and capturing the fluid ejected during the spin cycle and recycling it.

Fibers won't escape unless you literally bang on the wrapped panels with a broom stick. biggrin.gif

Felt and dyed burlap are both good choices.
