I tried zone 2 out to the same pioneer input via both hdmi and RCA cables. I also have zone 3 output to a different pioneer input via RCA cables.
When I would play an analog source on the marantz and tune to the input on the pioneer that is connected via both hdmi and RCA cables, the main (5.1) zone on the pioneer won't play it. If I turn the zone 2 of the pioneer on to that same input, it will play it just fine.
If I change the input on the main zone of the pioneer to the input that corresponds to zone 3 out on the marantz (outputting the same analog source on the marantz but over zone 3 now), it will play it just fine.
Clearly the pioneer picks up the analog signal that comes in on the input that is connected via both hdmi and RCA, because it will play it just fine on zone 2, just not the main zone.
This would all be solved if the hdmi would just pick up the analog signal on the way out of the marantz, haha.
