Batman is always prepared.

And that had to be simultaneously the most badass and sinister line ever uttered.

I guess the reason that I consider this a bad idea is because it just seems really rushed. I would like to see at least a sequel showing the continued growth of Supes into the iconic hero he is today. Granted it could turned out great and it is very early in the process but I don't have much faith in the creative powers at Warner and DC. I just have a gut feeling that it's going to be a huge disappointment. I sincerely hope I turn out to be wrong. Time reveals all.

That's one reason I like Batman is because he prepares for most situations and it makes him a very effective hero. While I liked Nolan's take, I want a version more true to the nature of the comics. I wonder how their going to carry that without a reboot.

From Variety:

Ben Affleck Is The New Batman

Film will bow July 17, 2015

Justin Kroll
Film Reporter@krolljvar

The actor will replace Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming untitled Superman-Batman feature for Warner Bros., the studio announced Thursday

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” WB president Greg Silverman said in a statement.

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” Snyder said in a statement. “I can’t wait to work with him.”

The irony to this news is that at one point Warner Bros. was interested in having Affleck direct the “Justice League” movie and his participation in this film will now spur interest if whether his casting means a possibility of directing that film.

Yeah, you beat me to it, and the internet has exploded with haters galore.

The more I think about it, the more I think he's a perfectly fine choice for the role. I'm sure he took it partly so WB would give him carte blanche for any of his directorial film projects in the future.
Given his interest in directing, I was surprised to see him take the role, but I think you're right, he could be a good fit for the role. His work in Argo was solid.

I don't understand the hate, does it go back to the whole Daredevil thing?

You got something against Boston accents?tongue.gif

Maybe we'll get him to direct the JL movie out of this...

Lol. A Beantown Batman could be the best movie evah. To add even more drama, Bruce Wayne owns the Red Sox and Lex Luthor owns the Yankees. So many layers and sub texts.biggrin.gif

Well, we don't actually know where Metropolis and Gotham are, so anything's possible.tongue.gif

No, but I do have a problem with 1 out of every 3 Bostonians challenging me to a fight for no rational reason. biggrin.gif

Wish he was directing the MoS sequel instead of Snyder.

Definitely not happy with that news it looks like Ben has to work real hard to make it work.

Will Affleck be the first actor to portray both Batman and "Superman" (as George Reeves in 2006's Hollywoodland) in the movies?

Actually, I quite liked him in Hollywoodland, remember some Best Supporting Actor nomination buzz in the air for him in it and believe it was his post-Daredevil/Gigli/Jersey Girl/etc. comeback film. So we've got an actor who saw his first major super hero opportunity fizzle bigtime, delved into the psychology of another actor who was haunted and possibly felled by his success as a super hero, and then saw his career essentially rescued and recover in rather historic fashion by his effectiveness in that portrayal. Something like this doesn't come up all that often in the movies. The implications and back story are pretty damned compelling. Hell, it is already a more compelling proposition than anything IN the last half-dozen super hero movies!

Yeah, I'll buy a ticket to see what Affleck does with the role of Batman at this stage of his career.

I've always thought Ben Affleck was a good actor. He now has more maturity both as an actor and of course as a director, that will make him approach the character differently. Daredevil is a thing of the past.

...And by the way, I just read the article over at cnn's... Seeing what many of Affleck's *cough* colleagues have tweeted about the news just show how selfish, childish, and stupid they are, kinda disgusting actually, starting with Richard Dreyfuss. I thought the man had more class. The logical thing to do would be to wish him luck for the part, not destroy him like they do, and the film isn't even written yet. That kind of disdain just pisses me off.

I thought actors were "in the same boat", apparently not. I've never heard John Williams say a bad thing about, say, Steve Jablonsky. Of course people do have their opinions, and I'm sure Williams or [insert insert any composer, director, producer, actor here] has his own about some of his peers, but you just don't trash your colleagues publicly. Respect is a long gone virtue I guess.

[EDIT] well it seems I misunderstood Dreyfuss' comments. Since I'm sure he reads this forum at least once a day, apologies Richard! tongue.gif ...With that said, the above still stands since many "celebrities" have already express their "disagreement" with the casting decision.

It's Twatter and celebrities, a perfect combination for self-serving commentary. I can't believe people still give a scheiße about what these a-holes type while drunk and sitting on the toilet.

BTW, I always thought Daredevil was a pretty good movie, especially the longer 'Director's Cut', but it was really FOX's fault for trying to make it a Bennifer vehicle anyways.

I think we could say the same thing about those of us on AVS and other forums. Our opinion isn’t any more important than anyone else’s, but we need to let everybody know it is. biggrin.gif

There is a thread about Cruising the AVS Forum while intoxicated... Just sayin’. biggrin.gif

Affleck as Batman....wow...I really didn't see that one coming. Out the gate, I have my concerns. And I doubly have my concerns considering how MoS was received. One REALLY has to wonder if this is a "relationship" casting choice or did he really read for the part and really show something that made it work for Snyder?

I felt like Daredevil was a quality fit for him for specifically how it was presented (or attempted to be presented). An attorney? Yeah, I know a couple just like him (looks and style). Blind? I felt it was convincing enough. Put a mask and suit on him and (again, the way it was presented) I felt he made it work. But billionaire Bruce Wayne? Man, I'm really struggling seeing that. Even more so than I did with Keaton. It makes me wonder if it's going to be the one or the other argument in that he makes a better Batman than Bruce Wayne or vice versa.

That being said, I'm not going to write him or the project off. Now it's simply become an "I gotta see how this turns out" kind of thing. I admit, I had the same concerns when I learned Keaton was going to play Batman. That worked out fine IMO. I also admit that the Bale portrayal currently has such a stronghold to me that it's possible that I'd feel similarly regardless of who was announced. The only difference is with someone else I might have been able to say I'm excited to see what he does with it. I can't say that with Affleck right now as I'm in more of that "watching a train wreck" mentality right now in that you can't look away. I'm not yet calling it a train wreck just to be clear. Finally, I concede that I have not seen Argo but I hear it was a good if not excellent performance from Affleck. And just from a distant observation, to me there appears to be something very different about the guy in terms of maturity in the industry and even the craft. So I choose to focus on that side for now and hope that translates into a quality performance. Beyond that all I can say is.....

....Good Luck....and May the Force be with you!

Exactly. And you mentioned Keaton and Bale...Let's not forget the "mixed feelings" everywhere when we first heard Heath Ledger was going to be The Joker...

Actually that one never worried me at all because I always felt he had a deeper talent than what was demonstrated, but I do know many had their concerns. On another point, I just realized Christopher Nolan is one of the executive producers. Not that I feel everything has to be "Nolanized" but there might be advantages to having him in the mix to bridge the gap so to speak. I wonder if he was involved in the Afflec casting choice?
