I am looking for some new bookshelf speakers for just around $300/pr. These speakers would be for a small bedroom. Right now I have polk t15's as my L/R and a polk psw10 subwoofer hooked up to a sony str-dh720(hp). I got these speakers just to start me out.

i have found a few speakers and would like to hear what you guys think would be best for me
1)ascend cbm-170se

2)arx a1b

3)htd level three bookshelf speaker

but i am open to any suggestions
Thanks in advance.

All 3 of those speakers are well liked here on AVS and are much better than your current Polk T15 speakers.

We can't tell you what you'd like best because everyone hears things differently. I think a couple of those brands offer a 30 day in home trial. You should take advantage of that and listen with your music in your environment. That way you'll know for sure what you like.

Look like you have done your homework about good low budget speakers.
I cannot comment since I have never heard any of them, so I will let that to the ones who knows.
But your in a good start doing research and fiding something other the big box store.

Best of luck with your decision.

I just got the EMPTEK E5BI speakers $225 delivered, and simply put it's amazing sound quality, looks etc, lively and punchy with out being bright and fatiguing like certain other speakers.....exceptional clarity and separation of instruments. I highly doubt any of those other speakers they are recommending could sound any better.

Ill have to look into those. It looks like they have a low sensitivity though compared to the others

In a small bedroom, just about any speaker will get louder than you ever care to listen to. All of them would be good choices, I will also throw out the Polk RTiA3 from the Polk Ebay store. As others have pointed out, it would be good to audition the speakers.

Looks like you're well underway with the list you provided. All good choices. I'll add EMP Tek E41, another $300 speaker pair. I own the E41-B version, fantastic midrange at this price level.

have you ever heard the ascend 170se compared to the emptek i've heard a lot about them.
No, but I also own the CMT-340 SE and I would characterize EMP's midrange to be slightly superior to the big brother of the 170s. Ascend are great speakers, I'm not knocking them in any way. Just providing another option that, based on my experience, works very well in a small room.

I have heard both, however not at the same time. Just going from memory I would say the Ascend is more detailed, but the mid-range is more punchy on the EMPs (this is the E5Bi). EMP definitely wins on looks, but both are great speakers. In my experience, the EMPs benefit more from wider placement, the imaging really picks up and so the 170s may be better suited for near field placement.
