Does 55LM9600 worth it for me?

Hey, I'm looking for a very very rich picture quality HDTV, and first I found the LM9600 to be the best match for me. the price is a little bit hard for my budget, but if this brand has the best 2D quality in this price tag then I'm okay with this price.

So the question is if the 55LM9600 really worth it in this price range, and if not, which brand with the same (or less) price has better\same quality? The reviews around the net are not THAT good for the LM9600 (or at least not perfect, what you kind of expecting for in this price range) - and I get that Sony and Samsung high-end brands are better - but also costs a way more than the LM9600, if not 2x times more, so it leaves me on the price range of the LM9600 maximum.

At first I thought of getting the 55LM6700, but all the "Full backlit-LED" thing which only the 9600 has seems to make a critical changes in terms of 2D picture quality- does it right? is there a significant difference between edge-LED to backlit-LED in those LG brands?

Well, I'm confusing. all I want is the best 2D picture quality (deep colors, best details, crisp and "alive" picture signture) and I'm okay to pay up to 2400$ only (LM9600 price). I don't really care about 3D and SmartTV that much (but those are nice to have). I also need 4 HDMI ports.

Does the LM9600 is my best choice, or is there best choice in 2400$ range, or less? (like if Full-LED doesn't make that change and I cant get a LM6700 or something)

Thanks!

Hi, I had a LM9600... It had awful white spots in all four corners and other areas of the screen when the backlight was turned up. I exchanged it out three times and every single one had similar issues. I finally returned it. Also, when looking at it from a side view the blacks turn to a light-clear color. Take my advice, if LED is your choice... Purchase a Samsung UN55F8000 series.. Its a wonderful set with a great picture and many features.. You will be very glad you did. smile.gif

Thanks. but I see that TV has not Local-Dimming (Full backlit LED) like the LM9600. is there not big difference between those kinds? or I can buy a edge-LED tv?

A Bing or Google search on the model number will find lot better prices then the price you posted.
I am surprised that a full array LED backlit model has different light levels in the corners this problem normally only occurs on edge lit backlighting models.
A local dimming LED backlit model will have better picture quality then a full array LED backlit model which has the same light level over the entire array.

Shame didn't see this sooner mad.gif

I've owned a 55LM9600 for about three months now and it has been a great set. The wide variety of reviews on this site and others lead me to believe the LG must have had some serious QC issues with this particular set. It would appear that perhaps I am one of the few that got a good one - I don't have the issues I see posted save for some VERY minor flash lighting in the lower left hand corner. I only notice it with 16x9 material and only if I really look. I found it difficult to calibrate - about a month until I had everything where I wanted it. The THX Cinema presets were pretty good, but I have a custom configuration that I pieced together from a number of sites and then hacked to fine tune it. I love the IPS panel - my viewing angles are great and that's important in my room. Colors are deep, rich, and accurate and I don't seem to have any motion issues (and I watch a LOT of sports). My black levels are good, but not plasma-good. On the other hand, there's plenty of brightness - it's easy to dial in too much but nice because I have a lot of wiggle room with the backlight settings. I have no real regrets about the set other than I wish it were bigger smile.gif

I think it all comes down to the individual panel - get a good one and everything rocks. Just make sure you have a reasonable return window. At $2400, it's only worth it if it's near-perfect. I paid just over half of that on a closeout and some haggling, and for that price I feel like I stole it... but in a good way... without the cops:) If I had it to do over again and had to pay closer to MSRP, I'd probably go with the Samsung 8500 plasma, but it was so new when I purchased my set that not many people knew much about it.

Hope you wound up happy with your decision!!!
