Denon avr-1713 Denon avr-1712 or Marantz nr1403? - Page 2

How so? AC4L doesn't open the boxes up, rather simply sells what they receive from the mfr.

OK, then it's pathetic on the part of Denon for sending it to A4L ... and it's still pathetic on the part of A4L if they don't bother to check them before sending them back out. smile.gif

Having worked on the supply end of this situation, I don't expect the retailer to have to check new items.

But the system is broken if Denon is sending damaged goods to A4L and not telling them AND at the same time A4L is not inspecting the incoming refurb units. One of the two things should happen, if not both.. The refurb units should be accurately described before reselling.

Although I would certainly agree that there needs to be better QA on the refurbs, it's not AC4L responsibility to inspect anything ... simply their job to sell what they receive from the mfr new or used.

It is their responsibility to sell quality goods or to accurately describe the items when not. So either they need to push back on Denon or they need to inspect.

The owner of AC4L has had a number of conversations with Denon management and continues to work towards a better refurb solution.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. Now until they get that fixed, they should refund the return shipping cost to the OP! biggrin.gif

I will strongly pursue a refund on return shipping and original purchase shipping. It was a disgusting feeling when I opened the box to discover the piss poor condition of the receiver. Cracks, scratches being covered up with sharpie marker along with multiple other scratches on the front panel. How someone (either a4l or denon) can think this item is saleable is pathetic.

I'll also be posting pictures of the unit before I ship it back on wednesday in hopes that it will prevent people from going through the same experience.

Here are pictures that show the deplorable condition of the receiver. I will be avoiding Accessories4less.com like the plague.

Wow. That's unacceptable condition. Whoever packed this for sale as a refurb, either Denon or ac4l, should be held accountable.

Please ... a few scrapes doesn't even come close to deplorable especially as this is a refurbished model. However, feel free to purchase through another vendor of your choice.

I've never purchased a refurbished device with CRACKS and scratches COVERED UP WITH A SHARPIE MARKER and I have purchased MANY refurbished items over the years. If you have and are satisfied with the product, then more power to you.

I already bought a BRAND NEW AVR-1713 for $20 less than what I paid for the refurb 1712. Do you happen to work at A4L by any chance?
Nope. However, I have visited their warehouse in Apopka, FL as well as met directly with the CEO. AC4L has been around over 10 years and is often recommended on the various AVSForum threads for the brands they sell. Note to that one can indeed sometimes find new in box items for the same or less price than a refurbished item which is why it's good to do your due diligence prior to making a purchase of any kind. Review posts #3-6 in the Denon AVR-XX13 Owner's thread linked in my sig to help with your setup and troubleshooting of your new 1713.

You just simply cannot overlook the crack on the front panel and the scratches that were covered up with a sharpie. Let me repeat, scratches that were covered up with a Sharpie marker. You might be a little more apologetic regarding the condition of the unit since you seem to have close ties with A4L.

I am fully aware that brand new items can be found for lower prices than refurbished items. This is not the first refurbished device I have purchased, let alone the first electronic device I have ever purchased. Had the 1712 been in better condition, I would have kept it and not purchased to 1713 since I preferred the 1712's capabilities.

I don't know if this is Denon's fault or A4L, nor do I want to know. All I know is that I am returning an item that is in unacceptable condition to the company that sold it to me for a full refund.
