I realize opinions are highly subjective, but no. Just no. Transformers is terrible at everything but being a ILM demo reel.
NuTrek might not be for everyone, but I dare someone to go back to TOS and tell me they didn't do a pretty good job of taking the original Trek and updating it.
They did a awful job of updating it... and it was totally unnecessary to change the characters. The cast is fine but the first story was so lame, full of lazy writing, catering to the LCD. In fact, since they were going back to tell the "origin", they had little cannon to contend with. Ironically, they created the alternate timeline so they would have freedom to change things at will... but... and this brings me to
ST:ID. As bad as the first was, the second was even more stupid. They change the timeline but bring back the villain we all saw coming a year ago, with a complete back story change. The thing is, the timeline shifted in the 23rd century so Khan's story would be exactly the same, except it wasn't. No Eugenics war, but these guys were exiled as criminals? Even though in the original Space Seed, that fact was also speculated but shot down as illogical since it would have been a waste to send criminals into space when more cheaper and efficient ways existed.
More illogic? Let's revive a 300 year old man (or was it 200?) to tell them how to build weapons even though they have mastered the tech to control matter/anti-matter explosion to provide virtually limitless power. They have mastered converting matter to energy and back to matter. They broke the light speed barrier. These are things that barely have any theory in Khan's time. Absolutely absurd.
I suppose a fun ride if you leave your brain at the door.
And they hired these idiots again to write? I shake my head ruefully.
