USB Sound Card for HTPC

Hello

I already created this post, but im not sure it was the right place - so here goes:

I am certainly not a Hi-Fi expert, but i recognize the importanse for great audio in movies/games.

I am building a home theater PC but have run into quite a dilemma. I would prefer a mini-ITX system because of the size, but the downside of this is that i only have one pci-express port on my motherboard (which I have to use for a graphics card). The second choice would be a micro-ATX system which have up to 4 PCI-express ports, but the size would be too large for my furniture in the living-room.

I think I have come to the conclusion that it has to be mini-ITX, but then I guess the only choice would be to purchase a USB-sound-card.

My speaker-system is a Logitech Z906 (I know its discount compared to real HiFi-systems) - can anyone recommend a USB sound card?

I am interested in having 5.1 sound.

I have been looking at:
ASUS Xonar U7
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi 5.1 Surround Pro

Any sugestions?

Best Regards,
Soren

Most motherboards have onboard audio and would do fine for your needs. Every multiple PC speaker system I've ever dealt with had 3-4 1/8" plugs. Most motherboards have those jacks included, and have optical out too.

U7 is good if you want a headphone amplifier.

Many multi-channel PC speaker systems are using faux surround sound processing these days and don't have dedicated inputs for the individual channels like the older systems did and many desktops only ship with a single stereo speaker output on the board now. I don't know why that is, but it's the way things are now. Logitech still has them though.
