Oh yeah, I did the same thing. That $170 driver costs $260 in places like HI/AK. When A 15" with 14-15mm xmax can be had for around $150 (or less) shipped, it's really a no brainer.

Thomas, with the pair of 4" x 23" ports added you will be left with 8.16 ft3, the woofer's going to use up around .1 ft3. Going slightly under 8 ft3 wont be a big deal, just make sure you're not wasting space with the braces. Picking up some .75" thick dowel rods to make the bracing will save a lot of space vs typical mdf shelf braces.

yes because of free shipping. I would have gone with one si 18 or two Dayton hf15.but shipping was way high.shipping on one si-18 is $200 making for a total of $390 for one. the daytons where better on shipping at $90 each for shipping

good idea with the dowel rod had not put any thought into the bracing other than keep it simple and minimal I will go with the double front baffle I have an extra half sheet of red oak plywood left over from the statements center build so I still only need to buy two sheets. no mdf for me that kinda stuff does not do so well on the wet side of the big island living in a rain forest with high humidity I have learned for furniture anyways only real wood goes into my house now plus I like the finish also it feels good working with real wood even if it is only plywood. my avatar is the statements center made out of red oak plywood and stained with red oak stain.
