Some reasonable points there. The mod may not help everyone. It might even degrade performance in a limited number of scenarios.
But I'd be willing to bet that the actual engineers who designed this turntable knew what they were doing
Beancounters have a tendency to override engineering, especially on budget products like the AT-LP120. Eliminating a few small components that would be needed to bypass the RIAA board will cut the build costs. By a very very small amount, of course... but "very very small amount" is still greater than zero.
