In solo mode, how do I earn the item from my chosen god?

You have to win several rounds (10-15 I think). Each round is made up of 4 waves or segments, to win a round you must survive all the waves.

While it can be done solo (I managed to get Apollo's shield and Jupiter's sword) it takes a lot of time and grinding. Going multiplayer will get you there more quickly.

I think it takes 10 rounds. I've gotten all four items playing solo, though at this point I only use Apollo's shield. There's an achievement that comes with getting all four, "Champion of the Gods", 20 points.

I'm going through this game again on Legendary, and am totally sucked into online MP coop. Although I'm sure Crytek isn't reading this thread, here are the things I'd love to see in Ryse II (there'd better be one!!!)

SP
Exponentially higher amount of enemy models. Seeing the same bearded barbarian 100+ times does leave you wishing for more.
Ability to acquire or pick up additional weapons. It'd be great to pick up a flaming sword, or dual wield clubs like the barbarians do. I'm sure this didn't happen since you'd need entirely new animations built for blunt instruments, or ones that burn, but it'd add to the overall game play.
Better follow through with breakable objects. Early in the game I randomly broke a vase and realized that there were (some) breakable objects in the game that provide XP, focus. Unfortunately it was random, the exact same vase would be breakable on one map, but not the other.
MP tie in to SP. Mass Effect 3 did this by combining game end assets with assets you acquired in MP. It was a good way to get the player to have some interest in doing both, and it also gave MP a goal beyond just leveling up and unlocking weapons.

MP
Co-op story mode. Would love to have gone through the story mode with a friend.
Map accomplishments. Such as - kick 10 barbarians into a pit give you additional XP at the end of the round.
More traps/deadly features. I enjoy angling enemies between walls, or other dangerous areas, and being awarded with one of the feature executions. It'd be great if there were even more.
Animals. Even if they're not free roaming, how about having a tiger chained in an area, so much like those spinning spiked features, pushing someone into it would cause injury/death.
Blood staining. It'd be great if the ground below you, or the water you fight in would saturate with blood. MP has some great effects, such as weapon flames reflecting on surfaces, etc. It'd be cool to watch the ground turn red as you hacked and slashed.

I would like to see some puzzles of sorts too.  While I enjoyed teh game a lot it would have been nice to get a some breaks from group to group.

I would love to see a competitive multiplayer aspect. 1 v 1 coliseum deathmatch style with tigers and animals being unleashed would be incredibly intense.

2 vs. 2 would be sweet as well - and unleashing animals would make it even more fantastic. smile.gif

They must have tried player-on-player MP. Two people who were very good at blocking would have a hard time hurting one another. Also the focus powers would be difficult to balance; they're designed to give one or two players an advantage over a small crowd of AI opponents.

Hit an odd glitch on MP last night. Joined a matched co-op, first round went well, second round as I moved forward I noticed that the other MP player moved to the left and walked into the wall. It appeared that he either glitched out or had a bad connection.

I decided to just keep playing, so I looked around for the barbarians. They were caught behind a feature trying to get to the other player. I attacked one and he didn't respond...and didn't die. He backed up, but never blocked or fought back. Since I was curious how high the combo level could go, I decided to see how high the combo could go. I got it up to around 930, and at that point the other player must have dumped out and the server closed.

Has anyone see this glitch?

I actually slogged through enough solo matches to unlock the Tier 5 gear (you have to hit rank 90). What a grind biggrin.gif.

EDIT: Is there any way to turn off auto clip generation? I have 94 notifications rolleyes.gif.

I believe you can turn off auto clips from the Xbox One's settings screen.

I've been wondering what level you needed to be to open up Tier 5 gear. Thanks for sharing.

Playing to that level solo must have been quite a grind, yikes. I enjoy playing solo, but playing co-op with a friend is so fantastic.

Good to know, since Ryse seems to generate multiple uploads every round.

I actually think that the system must be doing it. Sometimes it seems so arbitrary; I've seen it make a clip which starts with the menus for starting a round rolleyes.gif.

I just double-checked and it is definitely in the Xbox One's settings menu.

Settings > Preferences > System & App > then uncheck "Record Gameplay With Game DVR"

Once I did this, the clips were no longer recorded.

This doesn't stop you from being able to tell the Xbox to record gameplay does it? As in the "Xbox record that" command?

It should not as I believe that setting is for automatic recording. You should still be able to use the "xbox record that" voice command.

Just tried it with Killer Instinct after getting an Ultra Combo and it would not work. I quickly went into setting and turned the Game DVR back on and went back to the game and it worked, but only got 2 seconds of the end. So it appears if you turn it off in the settings "Xbox Record That" does not work as well.

EDIT: Confirmed that it does not work with Game DVR record unchecked. It will hear it, but you never get a notification that it was recorded.

Thanks for checking, and that's a bummer! It'd be nice if the two recording options were independent of each other.

Well poops. I guess I'll just leave it on then. There are some stellar moments that randomly occur on co-op Ryse that I want to capture...it's just a shame that it also captures a ton that I don't want!

Well, I finally got this game! It's actually my second XB1 retail game (Peggle2 doesn't count), after Forza.

I won a used "Day One" edition auction from eBay, but of course the standard edition arrived. I should have prepared for something to be wrong with this auction because 1) the seller is from Florida*, and B) their eBay name ends in "0420". rolleyes.gif No big deal, it's in perfect shape and was only $36 w/ shipping, and I almost bought it new from Amazon.

With the current gaming drought, I'm really looking forward to starting this game based on the comments and info in this thread! cool.gif

*No offense to the fine AVSers in the Sunshine State, but there's something about that place that attracts the scammers and con-artists.

I decided to see what happens if you decline to perform the currently assigned task; I usually avoid fighting until I finish that, particularly "Use Oil Cauldrons to Destroy the Catapults" and "Use Oil Cauldrons to Destroy the Arrow Launchers" because I don't want to be killed by a barrage from either device. "Use Oil Cauldrons to Destroy the Bunkers" seems a lot lower priority, so I tried ignoring that. After the initial wave of barbarians it continues to send the lowest class out ("minions"), but they all die after being struck twice and you never get an execution opportunity. Given that, your health gradually declines if you get struck at all and it's difficult to maintain a multiplier because it waits long enough between sending a few new opponents out for your combo to time out. Still, it was an interesting experiment and I managed to kill over a hundred barbarians in a single round biggrin.gif.

The day one edition only gave you an extra sword and shield from what I remember in the MP part of the game. Sort of helpful but not much.

Yeah, I not worried about the Day One thing - I just hate someone misrepresenting an item on eBay, either on purpose or (mostly likely) by accident.

Started the game last night, and I'm liking it so far. I really like the concept of deciding what bonus performing an execution will give me based on what I select with the d-pad.

Couple questions about executions - is it possible to perform an execution on everyone who has a skull over their head? I did it most of the time, but there was a few times I thought I landed an execution squeezing RT, but instead just killed the person.

Also during execution, if the victim flashes yellow meaning hit the Y button, but I accidentally hit X, it still seems like the execution goes through. Does this error just reduce the points given?

It should be, though they will recover if you don't trigger the execution soon enough. Some recover faster than others. If you have multiple guys ready for execution placing yourself between a couple of them will probably trigger a dual execution in which you go back and forth striking them both.

The execution will go through (slowly) whether you press any of the buttons; it will wait for a little while for you to press one and will perform the hit anyway if you don't. If you press the right buttons quickly it changes the class of execution, increasing your gains in XP, health, focus etc. If you press the indicated button immediately, you'll score a Legendary hit and you'll get some other class of hit determined by how long you delay; there are Centurion, Soldier and Recruit hits. The class of execution is the lowest class of all the hits. So if one of your hits is Recruit class and all of the rest are Legendary, it will be classed a Recruit execution.

You should gradually learn the cues of each execution so that you can anticipate the component hits, whether sword or shield. When you know them you can press the right ones very quickly (after the sound but even before it flashes the color) and score Legendary executions.

Great descriptor! michaelscott!

DaverJ, you'll eventually memorize many of the common executions, and get legendary on them regularly.

I find getting perfect (legendary) executions really satisfying, and when I play co-op with my friends it is one thing that drives us nuts (missing a proper execution). smile.gif

Anybody ever been standing on a part of the arena which sunk to be replaced by between waves? You actually see your character sink into darkness then suddenly appear back on the surface. I'd have thought that they'd have just left whatever it was on the surface during the switch if you were standing on it.

I personally haven't had that happen to me, but it happened to my friend in co-op while I watched. From my POV he was on the edge of an arena square and dropped with it as it sunk. I'd say 2 seconds later (it was very quick), he reappeared next to me. We both were surprised since we'd never seen it happen before. It's good to know that it doesn't kill you or glitch out the game.

On the glitch side, we have run into glitches such as;
  • Counterweights open gate/portcullis to objective, but there is an invisible barrier that no-one can get past
  • In rounds where you must kill everyone, one character either never appears or falls somewhere, and you cannot end the round
  • A health bar representing something will be floating in mid-air with nothing below it. Although not every time, we have seen this relate to the glitch above

Here's to hoping a small patch will come out to fix these, They pop up often enough to be a bit annoying.
The only glitch I've seen so far is an "arrow incoming" indicator stuck on-screen and stayed there until the next cinematic.

I've experienced this, though it never stopped me from ending the round because I've aways been able to find the guy. Usually he's behind something that he mysteriously couldn't figure out how to go around; as soon as he has line of sight he comes at me. Sometimes he's in one of those pop-up cages of spears that he can't seem to hack his way out of. Once he was on top of one of those spears, which meant that I couldn't touch him with gladius or shield; I found a pilum and skewered him with it.

I've seen the occasional graphics problem, but not often enough to really bug me; nothing's perfect.

It's only happened to me three times, and we were pretty thorough in looking around (because we had some good combo's during the match and wanted the gold!), and had to give up. It was on three different maps, three different locations. Next time it happens I'll look up! We only looked around the level and down into the pits.
