The easy way is to install your OS to the SSD and also install all your programs to SSD. When you install something like XBMC or mediabrowser you install it to your SSD- so when you go to launch or open it- it opens and performs much better. You do not need to put all your album art on your SSD.
I keep everything inside the movies folders located on my media server- and it feeds over LAN. I don't put anything on my SSD other than the actual programs and I only have SSD in my HTPC. It works very well this way. It's easy to set up too.. you don't have to do anything special.
The only important thing is before you install your OS to your SSD you must make sure your BIOS in in ACHI mode for your SATA controller and ports.
I am not sure what he meant by that comment. Most modern front ends are not switching to a two piece software combo like PLEX or MEDIABROWSER3 - in which case the "server" program runs on your media server and collects the album art from your movie folders and the client installs on the SSD on your HTPC.
