Premium Harmon Kardon Sound Package in 2013 Subaru

Anyone else have the so-called premium 9-speaker H-K sound package in the 2013 Outback or other Subaru? I can't really find any specs or schematics for it, and I am trying to figure out why it sounds so bad to me, and where to begin to improve it...

Where to start:

9 speakers.. 2 on front left, 2 on front right, 2 rear left 2 rear right and a sub?

what exactly sounds bad? What don't you like? try to quantify those issues first.

Then, look at the JBL MS8 or any of the other system integration processors. You keep the head unit, bypass the factory amp and add a subwoofer amplifier. Only issue is and they may have it worked out is the bluetooth may echo. Has to do with the latency of the processing in the MS8 if you use that.

The MS8 has an auto tune capability (Logic 7) that does a very nice job making a system sound better.

Anyway, that's where I would start.

Thanks for the thoughts.I have since found out a little more about the system in that it actually has an outboard amp under the passenger seat, which makes it all the more surprising that it sounds as bad as it does! The apparent tweeters are on the dash directed up at the windshield, rather than on the sail panels as in older Subarus. This does not seem to work well; also they sound like poor quality small speakers rather than tweeters. The rear door speakers sound horrible and must have paper cones! The front door speakers are marginal. The high range is fatiguing to listen to, and the mid bass is missing. The stereo image is sometimes absent, and the soundstage if often that of near mono. The speakers have to go for starters!
