Netflix (finally) adds user profiles

About time.

Of course PS3 and web support is first. I'm really hoping they support both mine and my parents viewing devices (BDT220 and BDT110) but that's an unknown quantity at this point, but the way they are talking it sounds
like they are trying to roll this feature out to as many devices as possible.

What about watch activity? If someone is on lets say S5 E3 of Murder She Wrote and another user wants to start watching Murder She Wrote will it show that they never watched the show putting them on S1 E1 or will it have the episodes marked that they watched them for that other user?

Also is there a way to add your own photo without using Facebook? I don't use Facebook.

Just go to https://movies.netflix.com/EditProfiles, add some profiles and play with it. When you've added profiles, your name on Netflix's top page becomes a pulldown menu from which to choose a profile.

I've tried it and each profile gets a unique everything, Instant Queue and bookmarks. If you watch something that someone in another profile is watching you can't see where he or she stopped watching or resume from there.

I'm fairly sure that there's no way to add your own picture. Netflix isn't saving pictures, just giving you the option to use the one on your Facebook profile if you have one.

Once I created profiles, they work on my Panasonic DMP-BDT220 and WD TV Live. When the player comes up it asks "Who's watching?" and let's you choose one of the profiles, and "Profiles" is one of a set of buttons above the browser, along with "Search" and "Just for Kids" (renamed "Netflix Kids" on the TV Live). As I stated above it works on the website, but there's no sign of it in the Win8 app, Xbox 360, TiVo Premiere or my Nexus 7.

The Windows 8 app was updated today but it will come soon. It seems like every week they update the windows 8 app. It is the most updated.

Do the profiles work on the BDT110? (or do you not have one hooked up to try?)

For you, Dave, I hooked it up smile.gif (it was in the living room serving as strictly a BDP). No profiles--sorry.

Since I was swapping things in and out I also tried the Sony BDP-S390 and PS3, both of which had profiles (of course we knew that the PS3 did). The PS3 was the only embedded player with which I could add a new profile.

Bummer. I guess me and my parents aren't going to be able to do profiles. Hopefully they'll add it, but I'm not expecting them to since it's an old machine.

I don't suppose there's a way to clean up a profile, now that we can separate them? Specifically, suggestions and recommendations seem to be based on what you've watched already. While my wife loves, "Say Yes to the Dress", I'm not a fan.

Is there a delete watch history or something, or will it fix itself in time?
I'd expect it to fix itself in time. Now that your wife has her own streaming profile I presume that you'll stop watching the things that she likes in your profile. You can probably go in to your profile on the PC and down-rate all of the suggestions that you're not interested in.

Anyone else have a Panasonic ST30? So far, I can't seem to access Profiles from mine.

Works fine on the computer, though.

What about your wife's "Say yes to the Dress" with her own profile does any of the episodes she watched on your profile show up or does her new profile just put her on E1 S1?

I am asking because I can't find this out anywhere.

You can find stuff like this out by creating some profiles and trying it on your PS3. In answer, new profiles start out new, so if you've been watching a series in an old profile you'll have to manually start at the place you left off in the new.

They haven't rolled out profiles to all of the units yet. Wii U/Xbox 360s and others are supposed to get them mid Aug sometime. I wouldn't start getting concerned if your unit is going to be supported for a few months or so.

Xbox 360 got profiles last week, a few days after the announcement. They generally try everything out first on the PS3, then it propagates to the other devices with the PS3-style HTML5/Webkit UIs. They can implement stuff like this in the dynamically downloaded HTML5 without modification to the resident code; no updates, it's just suddenly there. The Xbox 360, Wii and Roku players require separate development for mods and resident code updates.

Thanks that's all I wanted to know when I eventually get the rest of my household on Netflix as they have different tastes than me.

It will be nice once the profiles are supported by Roku. Calling Netflix the rep says within a month or so, while other searches say 2014. PS3 works fine with profiles, yet my family uses more than one Roku.

I think that's been a couple of weeks.

I don't know I don't use it that often anymore, I wish my parent's BDT110 would support profiles, would make my life much easier.

Any update on switching profiles with a Panasonic ST30? I was watching a movie on my projector through PS3, wanted to switch to my TV, and am only able to access the "main" profile and queue, which belongs to the person I share the account with.

The Netflix app on my Android tablet was updated late last night and now has profiles.

Same here, with my smart phone update today. Surprisingly, my new Panasonic TV, which has an October build date, already came with the Netflix profiles.
