Optoma HD131Xe, HD (1080p), 2500 ANSI Lumens, 3D-Home Theater Projector - Sub $800 New Budget King? - Page 40

Try out some live HD Tv channels. HBO, Cinemax, and Starz in 3D. You might never buy a 3D BlueRay again. This PJ appears to turn HD into 3D.

edit: gonna have to eat those words. Smartens up HD, gives 3D from the screen and away. Not much 3D projected into the room.

I just set my DVR to record a Comcast special 3D presentation. It's on the XF3D channel from 6 am to 2 pm. I'll let you know how it is.

edit: Thats more like it, images are projected into the room. Looks like you can reach out and touch them.

Maybe I'll have to give BlueRay another try.

Does anyone know if this projector supports these glasses?
ViewSonic PGD150
I have a pair of them already, thats the only reason I'm asking.

I just got my eset rf glasses in. I set them up in seconds!

Even though it's kind of gimmicky, 3D does look pretty cool. I noticed that I have to put 3D into SBS mode not auto. No big deal.

Looks like a "run with whatever works" kinda thing. For me, Comcast HD channels look best with Frame Sequential. Comcast's one and only 3D channel, XF3D displays better using SBS.

I have never been a big fan of "Auto" anyway. Anybody remember when "Plug and Play" first arrived? It was so bad we called it Plug and Pray. Half the time we had to install manually anyway.

I still don't know where to find the fw number that my machine has. It should be a selection on the menu.

As for the HD25e fw usage. I saw those posts a while ago too. I guess we'll have to go back and read about it or someone here can clue us in.

Good luck to us both figuring this out. I would like to think maybe we can get even better picture quality with the 25e fw. I don't know. The PQ is pretty good now though.

(Yet they are non-rechargeables and I prefer rechargables. but they really do get great reviews. After looking around this price is very good.)

Can anyone here recommend them from having used them?

Thanks all.. finally I decided to go with EStar America ESG601 DLP Link 3D Glasses and ordered 4 of them.. hope everything works well....

few questions... so i can just turn on these dlp glasses.. when watching a 3d movie through ps3 or any 3d broadcast from any of the channels through cable.. just need to press 3d mode on pj.. to use it right ?

how about PC? its the same ? just start 3d mode from pj remote and let a 3d content play from PC ? I have a Nvidia GPU attached to my PC.. which is 3d Capable.. options please..

TIA

Still need to get a pringles can so I can cover the lens.. tongue.gif ... Thanks for the tip by nickoakdl..

I did find that I had to select DLP-Link from the HD131Xe's 3D menu. I do not need to do anything each time I use them now.

Enjoy 3D!

Of the movies you've seen I have seen Avatar. thought it was really well done. It was realistic. The bodies and objects looked rounded. I watched the Jurassic Rark 3D and it was fun but things seemed flatter. Good depth but not nearly the subtle, rounded reality of Avatar. Just getting started with this 3D stuff and I find this PJ to be excellent.
I just wish the prices on many of the Disc packages wasn't so much. If the popularity grows, the prices will come down. And I buy used copies on Amazon and at f.y.e. and occasionally find good prices.
You could try renting them through mail thats what i do 3dtv corp glasses. Are very good glasses for the price

+1 I've had great luck renting through 3D-blurayrental

As far as glasses go, I ended up buying six pairs of the MOACC DLP-link glasses. They seem to work perfectly. However, I have no basis for comparison. I turn them on and they sync at 144Hz just fine. The y seem to be a great deal at $23/pair.

Two months in and I'm still loving this projector.

Your glasses recommendation is noted. And I wish we could have a real comparison test of all the 3D glasses here at AVSforum. Those of us who have glasses that work are probably a little chauvinist about them. Amazon reviews of yours are great except for one guy for whom they didn't work. The price on yours is very good. And I like the way they look.

They encompass the eye area; they are similar to the ones I use. And they are rechargeable. $22.99 w/free shipping right now. If I need more I'll try them.
Does anyone else use them?

I would like to ask you a question. What is brightness between these $40 bucks glasses and $21 sainsonic?
Just just bought a pair to test them before making decision.
Amazon is sending me a new HD131Xe because of soft focus issue. I just want to see if they receive another batch without this issue before sending to Optoma for repair.

Last week I put both pairs ($38 Monoprice and $20 Sainsonics) on my head and flipped them back and forth numerous times to compare the "brightness" and 3D "look", and honestly could not tell a difference. As far as I can see they both do a great job at 3D and only filter out an acceptable amount of light.
So, for me, it's purely a matter of comfort. After a few minutes I can somewhat get used to the Sainsonics just prefer the 3DTVCorp ones.

The MOACC's look like they're worth a try as well.

Good luck with your new 131!

Looks like I can probably pick up my projector tomorrow. I was checking the status of my RMA I dropped off on Friday and it was repaired today, I expect a phone call tomorrow to go grab it.

I would love to get some bucks back.
How would I make it? Call them?

EDIT: Never mind. Just chat with amazon and they refunded me the difference.
I hope the new one is fine. Otherwise, I have to go with repair way.

Does Amazon have some type of "Price Drop" gaurantee?

Last time I checked they will refund the difference for 14 days after the order is placed for TV's. Depending on who you talk to at Amazon a projector may or may not be considered a TV. I bought a Benq W1070 and the price dropped within a week. They refunded the difference. I returned it (fan rattle) and purchased an Optoma HD25e. The price dropped on it within a week and they refused the refund as the rep I talked to said it wasn't a TV and did not qualify for the refund. Talked to a supervisor later and got the refund.

About to buy this one. Amazon has it for $746.99 and they give you $50 back in store credit.

Historically, have there been Black Friday deals on these projectors?

I've been playing some Assassin's Creed III today, and that game has a lot of bright areas, snow, sky etc. During the loading screens, which are completely white i spot a huge green blob effect on the top right. My hope is that it's just something on the wall, but i doubt that. This looks like the green blob/tinge i had on my Panasonic VT30 plasma last year. Anyone else see this? I can also see it when displaying the projector's own white test background

If you've got a blob or a tinge on a DLP projector, I'd look at the screen (wall, in your case) or projector lens (check for a smudges).

DLPs don't use panels like Plasmas or LCDs, so you can't really have a uniformity issue like that.

Problems with DLPs you'd get would be a stuck mirror (pixel would be stuck on or off) or maybe a color wheel issue. Then again, I guess you could get a smudge on the color wheel too, if it already had it at the factory somehow.

I looked on the lens and yes there's actually quite a big smudge on it. I made a photo of it...what you see there shouldn;t be there?

I tried to remove it gently with a cloth that is used to clean tv screens and such...but it wont go away.

Also the test pattern white of the HD131xe itself is far from truly white...all around it seems more white mixed with green. White backgrounds of the game are more white than the test pattern. odd.

On my white test pattern it is the same. And I have always noticed the occasional green tinges in small areas of intense white. I always thought of it as an overload of white. I don't think it's a problem. Let others chime in on this.
Just my opinion.

Ive been wondering the same. THought about pulling the trigger yesterday with Amazon, but am curious about Black Friday.
Are we within the price match period Amazon has for Black Friday?
Call Amazon and ask.

This a newer projector and the price seems pretty low. But at this time of year it is always a coin toss.

Last year at this time the Panasonic 220 3D player was $79. Now it is 2 to 3 times as much. I hesitated. I don't own one. Darn.

Well, I guess patience is not my virtue... I pulled the trigger an hour ago and it's already on "Shipping now" status. :)

I live in Ecuador, so it will take a while for me to receive it, and I wanted to avoid the December congestion in mail services. I currently have a 5-year old Mitsubishi HC1500, so, this will be a nice upgrade.

Please... Could anyone be so kind as to post pictures of the cardboard box?

I need to know how to declare this projector in Customs. Does the box art present this as mainly a movie projector, or as mainly a data projector?

Ok that's somewhat of a relief then, cause boy i've had my share of faulty televisions and i do not want to add a faulty projector to it. It really isn't a big bother anyway, Certainly in no way as bad as it was on the Panny plasma.

By the way, currently i have the lamp mode set to bright, i like it quite a bit more than eco. The downside to this is that i will have less lamp hours if i choose bright, right? A whole lot less or not too bad? I also toned down the brilliant colour setting from 10 (max) to like 5. I noticed that colours looked far from natural at 10 and a whole lot more natural at 5, quite the difference.
