I went to home depot paint department and looked at some of their wonderful flat dark colors and am leaning towards a matte dark blue for the wall behind the screen. maybe.
My floors are already painted blue with that garage floor epoxy and 3 large rugs to soak up reflections.
Might as well stick with the blue theme.
Something very awesome happened just now. I said i was going to cover up my walls with old curtains and such, right? Well i did..i however didn't have enough curtains and i had to find other things. Lets just say that there are multiple ways to use garbage bags, haha. As you can see in these photos
This one you can see the old spare curtains and what not..yes yes incredibly sloppy, but i didnt have a whole lot of time and i am away from home all day tomorrow and.i just couldn't accept not knowing what kind of difference it would make:
Here i made good use of garbage bags:
On the wall directly opposite of the wall i project on i simply put several posters, anything to block the white wall basically. I fired up Dead Space.3 and i couldn't believe how lovely dark that game had gotten, in terms of brightness and black level. And these were the settings from yesterday. Then i fired up the scene from The Dark Knight...see the difference:
Yesterday (white walls fully visible)
As you can see, noticeably better.
I am definitely keeping the projector. I want to actually have to do things to make this work, i've played a few rounds of BF3 and Halo 4 and oh man...there is something to be said about that. A few questions:
1- If i was to paint all my walls (including the wall i am projecting on,except for the part where the 'screen' is, dark blue, that would sure as hell improve the black levels significantly? I rather not go for pitch black, however maybe i could go for dark grey. Unless dark blue would be good enough.
2- So today i saw a clear improvement, but its far from 'perfection'. I assume if i had covered the wall i am projecting on(except for screen) with curtains, bags, etc. it would have been even better?
3- In some instances the white wall was actually darker than what i was projecting, or if i put my hand in front of the lamp, it would look much more darker, how come?
4- Wall or ceiling mounts. I am going to have to pick one..if i was to pick a wall mount, are there wall mounts that let me attach the projector to it while it's hanging upside down? Cause that might work for me.
That's it for now.I am going to fire up Netflix and enjoy a movie. I've been doing a lot of thinking since yesterday, i was afraid there would be no good solution to this and i was thinking about how it would be to go back to a 'small'. 60 inch plasma again. But now i am sure, now that i have seen how damn nice it can look...i'm gonna go for this one hundred percent!
