I kept internet with Cox but dropped their TV service back in April and went with DirecTV.

All these years thinking there really could not be much difference and I was wrong. Over the past few months Vegas had some really nasty wind rip though and my service and satellite did not hit any speedbumps or loose service.

I dont subscribe to all Priemium movie channels, but wow D* has a ton if not all movie channels in HD compared to Cox's 5 movie channels. And to top it off I have like 10x more TV content and paying less then 1/2 that I would pay Cox those Mother F-ers. Ive got 2 DVR's + Cinemax and all the extended channels (not Premium Movie) and pay $75.

I've heard of U-verse relating to ATT tv service, Is Mother F-ers now the name cor COX TV, as in COX Mother F-ers?

But seriously, why are Cox prices so high for so little content?

I won't go the low road, but my surname for Cox (similar to above) starts with an "S" and ends with "ers."

I'm not looking forward to the billions of TiVo messages I'll be getting in the next week about all the channel changes, and resetting my Season Passes. At least they're smart enough to do it in August before the new season start.

What "new" season?
Back in the fifties and sixties, when there were only 3 or 4 channels to watch, the television "season" ran from September through May or June. Now with cable networks like HBO, Showtime and USA, new "seasons" can start at anytime. (And that's a good thing.)
The four major nets like to think that they still control the viewing public, but more and more, the cable channels are taking the lead in innovative series ideas. While there is still some entertaining programming on the majors, some of the best shows are on cable, such as Dexter, In Plain View, Royal Pains, Burn Notice, Boardwalk Empire, Weeds and Nurse Jackie. Because of public broadcast standards, the majors just can't compete with some of these shows. Some of the above shows have already begun their "new" seasons.

Yes, we need more Hispanic programming. Pretty soon it will be like AM radio.
Instead of interesting channels like MeTv and Antenna TV, all we get is a barrage of foreign language and infomercial channels. What's wrong the programmer's in this town? Cheap, I guess.
Colon blow and godcasters pay cash for carriage, while the services people actually want, don't. If a station thinks they can make a profit selling ads on a new service, they will pick it up. If not, then it's 50 channels of crap.
Both Antenna TV and MeTV have been in serious talks with several Las Vegas broadcasters. Any deals have yet to be announced, but that could all change in a split second. KVVU is the most likely to want an affiliation, while KLAS and KVMY have room for another sub. KBLR is also not out of the picture, but may be saving a sub-channel for any potential Desert Nonstop service from NBC.

The only channels of crap locally, IMO, would be KHMP 18.3, KLSV 50.1, and KLSV 50.3. All seem to be 24/7 infomercials. All of the other local channels, again in my opinion, have viewer friendly programming. It just depends upon what your programming tastes might include.

Local band wasters would include K41IO-41 with only one main channel; KEEN-17 with only the main channel; KLVD-23 with only one channel, and KTUD-25 with only one program but streamed in both stretched and SD versions.

No Meredith stations have any non-weather subchannels except for WNEM with My Network TV on a subchannel, so I find it to be unlikely. The Meredith stations look to be waiting for Mobile DTV.

Don't count on it. They're already using a bunch of bandwidth for Mobile DTV.

Plus, you're more likely to see Inmigrante TV if they add anything at all.

Las Vegas affiliation agreements are close to being announced for MeTV and Bounce.

I think you're suggesting that AM radio is not of your liking. While AM is far from being pronounced as dead, it is not in the best of health. How did it get in this situation? I'd say the beginning of the downfall was when the FCC took the caps off ownership limits many years ago. This drove the dial into the crapper quite quickly. Companies like Clear Channel bought stations like they had money (which they didn't), then stripped the stations of local content. This was not just for AM stations but also FM. Revenue was diverted from the local economies into the pockets of the very few key execs of these mega companies.

Am I the only one who thinks the OTA channels is just a landgrab to win big at the voluntary conversion lotto? The spectrum can be worth a lot of money - Dish paid $9.5M for one 6MHz block and Cox paid $30M for 12MHz here in Vegas a few years ago.

KHDF-19.1

Azteca Las Vegas affiliate KHFD-19.1 is now broadcasting in digital. Yesterday their analog signal went missing but I wasn't able to locate any digital signal until this morning. Azteca programming will likely remian on their main channel while the rumor is that BIZ TV will be on a sub-channel at some point.

The move of KHDF to digital leaves just three Las Vegas analogs broadcasting, and several more currently under a silent mode with the FCC. Then there are several others that have apps or CP's that may start-up one day.

Its all a silly game, the airwaves are not used for the public interest anymore.

MeTV in Vegas

KLAS is now listed as an affiliate of MeTV on the MeTV website when you put in your local zipcode in their search feature. Still no official announcement from either KLAS or MeTV.

On 8/30, Cox is adding Galavision HD, Encore HD, Fox Business Network HD, BIO HD and WGN America HD. Today, Cox removed four analog channels to help make room for these new additions.

Got a bid fro a direct tv rep at Sams Club and it was actually more than my Cox bill.

The loss of those four analog channels affect those subscribers on starter cable the most, IMO. Those subscribers just had their rates raised from $16 to $20, then they lose access to channel 2 City Govt, channel 4 County Govt, and channel 96 Cox crap and baseball. Shouldn't Cox drop the rate back down since they didn't provide those subscribers with replacement programming? Shouldn't Cox drop CSPN-1, CSPN-2, QVC, HSN, TBS, and WGN America from basic starter cable and replace it with all the remaining missing local Las Vegas over-the-air broadcasters and their sub-channels? Yes, yes, and yes again.

KGNG is now airing teasers for the Bounce Network set for a national launch September 26 on their KGNG 47.3. Bounce TV is the ethnic network based in Atlanta and from Andrew Young and Martin Luther King III.

MeTV

RabbitEars.info is now reporting that MeTV will find a Las Vegas home on KLAS 8.3 soon. MeTV, short for Memorable Television, is a retro program diginet that is fast taking the lead among similar providers RTV, Antenna TV, and themselves.
I don't know if it's going to 8-3 or replacing LATV on 8-2, so I took a guess. We'll know in a few weeks.

1. Is Cox actually going to carry digital channels on RF2 and RF4? How well does low VHF work on cable?
2. Are the dropped analog channels available in clear QAM so a limited basic subscribed with a QAM tv can still receive them?

Both of the Government channels from RF2 and RF4 and currently available on clear QAM for limited basic subsbribers. I would suspect that many of those subscribers do not have a Clear QAM enabled tuner. I have not noticed that the former Cox 96, that was deleted from analog, is available on Clear QAM. It may be and I just didn't see it.

I sent an email to Cox asking them to put PSIP data on the channels they removed. This way, it'll come up as "2-1" and "4-1" even though thats not where they're being broadcast. Right now they're at 89-5 and 89-13 (and thats probably subject to change the next time they shuffle channel assignments).

Assigning the channels to 2.1 and 4.1 seems logical, but don't expect Cox to use logic.

Low VHF is about as bad for cable as it is for over the air broadcasts. Impulse noise is still a major concern - if turning on a vacuum gave you static on the analog signal, it will completely clobber a digital signal. If I was Cox, I would shift WGN and HSN down into those slots, then use their old frequencies for digital channels.

The KLAS Wikipedia page shows that MeTV will launch 5 September 2011 on channel 8.3. No official announcement has yet been made, however.
