My directv box works flawlessly through hdmi. The thing is awesome at switching hdmi.
The only problems I am having I believe are setup issues. These are caused because of the poor owners reference that you can download from Krells website.
I was told you can save three eq profiles. One of them being eq off. Still haven't figured out how to do this. It seams self explanatory but for some reason if you have one eq profile and then save it all the others sound pretty much the same. So haven't figured out how to do it properly. But ares versus audessy both are good. I will tell you with movies I love ares. I loved audessy. Audessy is much more flexible depending on how your room and speaker setup is. According to other people. But Foundation with ares the dialog is so perfect it is amazing. The midrange is perfect and the bass incredible.
Also with the sub playing in all modes. I know on mine before the redo of my ares it wasn't playing in analog/preamp mode. But this again is hopefully my fault with improper setup. We will see. I plan on calling Krell on Monday and getting some answers. I will post here as soon as I do.
But if you need to make a decision right now and it is within your budget the thing still sounds amazing. Best sounding piece of equipment I have ever had by a large margin. The digital hdmi input from my oppo 105 using the Foundation's dacs has a much deeper soundstage than oppo straight through to amps. Or oppo in to Foundation with xlr in analog/preamp mode.
I hope this helps a little.
