Ron,
I think your comment in the other thread "Krell Brings Foundation AV Pre/Pro to the New York Audio Show" makes sense. This one might be considered the Krell Foundation main forum. And it is getting a bit challenging to keep toggling around.
Let's try to make this our main thread for KF.

yuppi, though I completely understand that all the input sources of Krell Foundation should be expected to work smoothly, I am just curious as to why you are trying to use the optical and/or coaxial Digital input? Are you thinking or come to know from somewhere that using coaxial for audio might be better instead of channeling both a/v thru HDMI?

OTOH, at least your Krell server access is working fine, as I can see the screen shots showing all the control buttons in active status. My iPad and iPhone works great, but having issues with other laptops and Tablets.
I tried and failed with Asus 7 inch tablet. Will try another tablet of same company but different specs tomorrow. I am using dynamic ip address. Not sure if Static ip address might help! Apple browser is working great, but not sure why having trouble with google or ie ones...

Will play with this and come back to share my experience....

Yes lets make this the user thread.

Prosoft yuppi told me his cable box only has optical that is why.

Keep us updated on the tablet thingy.

Thanks Ron! I will update about the server access via tablet efforts.

I got info from Krell at one time that said, the server page works well with Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Not sure why you had to use IE to connect while using your Galaxy S4, as you mentioned earlier.
I checked in the web and looks like Galaxy/Asus/ Nextbook tablet run on Android and IE isn't compatible with Android (there can be a roundabout - but quite complicated). I even tried to download IE for my Asus tablet a couple of days and failed.
Great that it finally worked for you on you Galaxy, but I am a bit confused...

However, all other features of Krell is working very well for me without any issue at all and the sound is AWESOME! That is the brightest spot for me at this time.
Yes its all about the sound.
I will have to look into what internet is working on my galaxy.i may be wrong on internet Explorer. Just assumed.
Ok I guess it is google. It works way faster now with the new Web pages

My tablet is working now. Using Chrome. So, now the iPad, iPhone and Asus tablet, all can use the server interface.
I am planning to replace my Audioquest connectors now, since the kimber Kables are a bit too thick for the Audioquest SureGrip connector. I am getting the special order 500 series ones. Very good quality! I believe connectors are very important. If loosened or have any issue, this can impact the audio quality, even if very good speaker cables are used.

Hi all
I'm trying to update the software of my foundation processor through the network but it says "download error".
Please, where can I find the new software to download and upgrade through USB?
Or, can someone between you email me a copy of the latest software to do the upgrade via USB?

Thanks

I only have 1.08 in my PC:)

I have downloaded v1.09. But had the same issue while attempted to download initially.
The reason possibly was that, I use a boaster on top of my Netgear wireless router. So, I unhooked my Foundation and took it upstairs to my home-office room. Then connected directly using a ethernet cable. Got the download in one try, no issue!
I didn't try again afterwards downstairs though, but if you are using a router, try this way.
Let us know what happens....

It was the router at my home.

Tried connected at my office and everything was done perfectly!!!

The Foundation router sensitive....

I have my Foundation hooked directly into router. Probably why I have always had no problems.

Also noticed when running ares with the new firmware that the volumes are definitely louder than they used to be. Still don't understand why when pinging the sub in room eq it only pings between 2-5 times. All the other speakers ping at least 11 times. I would think it should ping the sub more than any. That is the most critical to get right. It also set the sub about 3 db to hot. My back surrounds were 2db to low. They still have more work to do to get ares right.

Hi all. I have a question regarding the dac's in the foundation. Who makes them & will the digital inputs accept a 24/96 or 24/192 bitstream? I listen to a lot of high res 24/96 tracks like HD tracks through a krell connect w/o the dac built in & am not sure if the Foundation will decode the 24/96 from the Connect. I read somewhere it only decodes up to 16/44 but that seems unlikely to me. Then again, maybe that's true & I should have a Connect with the Dac built in. Anyone? Thanks.

Well to answer your first question. It has a Sharc dac in it. The latest version The same one used in the Oppo 105.
To answer the second question. I think the 16 44 thing you are talking about is only through the optical or coax dig. connection. It plays all my 24 192 files through the hdmi connection from my oppo. Does the Connect have an Hdmi output?

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Ron. The Connect w/o the Dac built in has only coax & opt out, no hdmi. I thought the Oppo used an Ess Sabre Dac, not the Sharc.? Steve
post #140 of 1268
Just found out that the Foundation does use the Ess Sabre Dac & will do up to 24/96 via the digital inputs but not 24/192. Thanks
post #141 of 1268
You are correct I dont know why I said sharc. Yes same as the oppo 105

Has anybody redone ares after the update? I did and I noticed that when I double checked my spl the sorrounds were 2 db low. The sub 4db high and my backs were 3db low. When I did it before the new update they were all within a db. This was checked with my Radio Shack meter.

Jus the noticed tonight when trying to set spkrs in optimal position that my sub was playing in pcm stereo mode. This should only happen in main+sub. This just started in latest firmware. Can you guys all check yours?

Yuppi version 1.07 I checked and thought my sub wasnt playing. I wish I could recheck. Everybody needs to complain about this. It should only play in the other setting.

You need to turn off your power amp and hear some small sound by the woofer.
Ok. I will check

Well to whom it may concern. I disconnected both my amps and turned on the Foundation and my oppo. I played a cd first through the analog input. Put Foundation on analog/preamp mode no sound out of my sub at all. No matter what volume. Good result. Switched to the hdmi input. Put the Foundation on pcm/stereo mode. I had sound out of my sub at a lower volume than main+sub. Bad result. What makes it worse is it was playing full range sound. I could here all the frequencies out of the sub. And we all know subs aren't going to do a good job of reproducing high notes. And I am almost positive this wasn't the case when I had version 1.07.

Now until this gets worked out I have to keep my Oppo 105 to take advantage of its analog output stage. I was considering selling it and getting the 103. And saving 700.00 because the Foundation has the same dacs as the 105.

I have compared the two and the Foundation has a more 3 dimensional soundstage. But this is a problem that has to be fixed.
