AVS Top Picks
Not really feelin that track as much as some of the others you've posted so far. (A bit too contrived and instructional for my taste.) You can't necessarily judge a person's work from just one tune though.
Haven't heard a whole lot of A. Banks' work yet either, but on this track anyway (which samples a classic house beat by Lone), she seems a bit more my style.
Explicite lyrics on this btw.
Sorry I fell behind on the thread as it can be hard to listen to songs with kids around and when I don't have the kids around I haven't had time to catch up.
I agree with Film the Police that it can come across as slightly "forced" but some of the artist that came to mind when reading the article were all part of the song so it came to mind quickest. It was also done "quick" as the actual concept was in response to a specific story and they wanted to get it out as quick as possible I believe.
As far as A. Banks this song is my first exposure to her and definitely not my cup of tea. I'm not as much into the "house" "dance" whatever the proper term (outside of hip hop/rap) the beat fits into.
Glad you posted this. Macklemore stumps my brain for some reason. I can see why he has gained the fame and attention he(they although people definitely think Macklemore more than Ryan Lewis) and he gets tons of respect from people on the underground(currently those tend not to overlap) but I am for some reason in the small minority which just doesn't like it that much. Now I will admit I only have a small sample size of Thrift Shop, this song, and one other I gave a listen to that I don't remember the name of but I just don't like his delivery at all. The message of this song is great and I agree with it 100% but I've heard it twice now and have no interest in hearing more.
I'll bring up a separate subtopic if anyone has anybody like this that you feel you "should" like based on other tastes and people with similar tastes liking and artist that you just don't like.
I would say wack but at least some points for the effort. I like what he was going for but don't like the end result.
Somewhat similar but different an artist name Copywrite mad a mix tape called Carbon Copy's Phony Art Pub Scam with his rhymes over beats made from Sgt. Pepper's and I like it a lot(has a few misses but overall solid in my opinion).
Agree with this.
Unfortunately I saw him live a few years ago(5/6?) and it was very disappointing. Maybe my expectations were to high but it really seemed like he was phoning it in and just their for the check.
This my be my favorite "chill" song ever. It perfectly places you in the mode and unless you got the worst news that you could possibly ever get I don't see how it can't put a smile on your face.
Also Old school Eric B. and Rakim and Ice Cube is always a good listen.
Looks like I've fallen behind here again. (Quelle surprise.) I've enjoyed listenin to the other posts here though, includin many of AstroTravellin's tracks. (I'm interested in UK Garage, Grime & Dubstep as well, but haven't had an opportunity to delve into those very deeply yet.) Anyway, here's a block by one of the better, and more under-rated/appreciated artists in the genre imo. Hope you'll like some of these.
