Using an Intrared repeater with a Magnavox 537 DVR

The shelving holding the DVR is at a 60 degree angle to my chair. I could control my old VHS from my chair but not the DVR. To do anything (play, stop, fast forward, etc) I have to walk over to the unit. (I know the exercise is good for me, but ...) I bought a single wire IR repeater but it does not work. The repeater is good as it will work with my VHS and it has a light that flashes to show that it is receiving and it flashes when I point the DVR remote at it. Does the Magnavox 537 use a "special" IR signal that a low cost repeater would not send? Any suggestions on a IR unit that is know to work with the 537?

PS: I put the emitter at the point show in the manual where the infrared window is. I also tried moving it all over the front of the DVR.

Do you have a TV with auto-ambient light-sensing control. If so, try turning that off.

I did several searches and found that Uverse and Comcast control boxes (that contain DVRs) do not work with standard IR repeaters. Some problems talked about higher frequency, others about frequency control. Non of these were about a Magnavox unit but it sounds like I may have to spend $100 + to get a IR repeater that works.

Problem solved. Amazon has a Monoprice 9895 for $25. The write ups said it worked with units that other IR repeater did not support. I tried it and it works with the Magnavox DVR.

Monoprice has it for $17.50.
