PS3 died, now I am screwed for next few months

Well, my PS3 (original design) decided that when you turn it on, it turns on, starts to spin the CD, starts to come up and then stops, beeps three times and the light flashes red. No matter what I do, it does this every time. I purchased a new power supply and installed it, but that did not fix my issue.

The PS3 was my only blu-ray player, so I can't watch any movie we have/purchase, I can't finish The Last of Us, etc. etc. I have the PS4 on order, but now I am out until the PS4 comes out. If I buy a blu-ray players, I will only use it for 4 months until the PS4 comes out and then it would sit and collect dust. If I get the PS3 repaired, its a wasted $200 because I wont use it again after 4 months.

This sucks, why couldn't it wait a few more months before dying?!!!

Sounds like the yellow light of death (YLOD). Search on youtube for a tutorial on a temporary fix.

Check out Gilksy's series of videos. I've used this method several times with good results.

It usually gets me at least 2 months of extra life before my PS3 YLODs again. You'll need a heat gun and some Arctic Silver (about $10 at Radio Shack).

Yep, that's the vids I used to reflow mine. It will get you up and running for a little, long enough to get anything you want off of it

Got two and a half month out of it myself. At the least you can backup your gamesaves.

Another +1 for the gilsky. Worked for me. It will YLOD again though.

I must have a golden launch PS3 or something, still going strong, even after finishing TLOU twice.

I think I will try this, I build PC's all the time for my home so this looks pretty easy, I just have to get my hands on a heat gun that can go down to 350 degrees celsius.

Yup, if you’re any bit proficient putting a PC together, it’s pretty much the same. The only thing to be careful with is the ribbon cables (mainly the one to the BD Drive) and where they connect to the PCB’s. A bit brittle and sometimes those tiny connectors don’t want to shut.
