Solution suggestions for one room control.........

Thread Starter
I have completed my dedicated soundproofed room and am looking for one room solution be it Prodigy, Control 4, Crestron, URC with IR blasters etc.........I'm open to using what is simple and intuitive be it irule or others.

I have plumbed a 2-1/2 PVC pipe near the projector and have covered with a Knotty Alder box for access pulling wires for 232, HDMI or IR receptors.

Rewiring or drilling holes in the room is possible, but only from the room to the rack which is outside and adjacent to the theater.

I would like to control the following equipment:

VPL HW 1000ES Projector
Marantz 8801
Opp 103
Dish Hopper ie. Sat cable
Panamax MB 1500
Grafik Eye 6 zone

Thanks..............

Can drill into room for IR if need to from rack closet which is in front of theater room and can clear the swing of the door.

My only access to the room via 2-1/2 inch PVC pipe which is hidden in the box adjacent to projector.

Did you make any progress on this?

Did you run a control cable to the Grafik eye so that it can be adjusted by an external control system if needed?

There are a dozen different remotes that can do this, but it depends on what your competency is. If I were installing, I would put in a Crestron MC2W with a MX850 remote control so that you have a nice hard button remote control that just works phenomenally reliably.

Is the Crestron MC2W user installable or does it require a CI?

Unfortunately, it requires a CI. There are other options, but you may want to ask in the 'remote' area, vs. here. This isn't really a distribution question, but a remote question. Harmony remotes with RF receivers can do this and be more cost effective for new gear, but reliability can become an issue.

Thanks,

Forgot about this thread due to inaction...........

Yes, I ran a cable from Graffik Eye to AV closet and have 2-1/2 PVC running to projector and another to the room. Due to rate in which I built the room, I decided to deal with control after home was built.

I've used Crestron in my other home and had reliability issues.............might be due to CI, but figured I'd never go that route again. I'm dealing with a one room control issue and have prepared for all possibilities. Long term reliability is my major concern..................

Most common remotes for one room solutions for CI's are URC, RTI and Pro Control (made by RTI). All need a processor to make them RF.

All require programming. But as you have learned from your Crestron, it's not really about the remote system, it's about the programmer.

I myself like URC for programming as they have a little quicker response on guides and menus. I sell the crap out of the URC MX850 and MRF350 as they are very reliable and easy to use. No touchscreen, regular batteries, hard buttons and 10 programmable screen buttons make this a remote that many like. Nice feel in the hand too.
The MRF350 has a separate antanna for rf issues and the ir outputs are addressable.

Find a good installer, to find a good solution.

+1 URC
