One of the things that happened with this current chassis, that has never been resolved, is the warm-up changes. On the previous chassis, the convergence error was a constant. But on this chassis it changes as it warms-up and also changes differently if mounted upside down. For whatever reason, normally its the blue panel that shifts the most which is the least harmful. My X75 is like that. But the X70 I had before, it was the red panel doing all the moving and it actually rotated away from green as it warmed up. It looked superb when first switched on, and then not wonderful after it warmed up.

I saw the inside of the optical block on that machine. The chips were mounted each to a machined plane and two of the chips were adjustable in the xy directions only. The screws locked the x and the y into place but there was no controls for moving the chips. Hand placed and then the screws tightened. Barco I believe has a commercial machine with remote mechanical controls for moving independently two of the three chips in the x,y, and z directions. The control knobs allowed up to ten turns adjustment but it needed to be done by a factory technician in the field.

Hello,

I recognize that this is not a high tech question but maybe you guys can bear with me. I currently have a Panasonic AE900u which is on it's third lamp and beginning to gert dim as well as periodically shutting off and restarting. I thought about buying the AE8000 but there seems to be a lot of concensus that the Epson 5030UB is a better projector. The Epson doesn"t have lens memory or power zoom. I am speculating that you on this thread also figure that the JVC is a better projector and since I'm old as dirt, this may be my last projector so the money is not an issue within reason. I would propose buying the DLA-X500. It does appear that it does not have component inputs so that also means a new receiver I guess. At any rate, I went on the JVC site and they indicate that no on line dealers are available and when I put in my zip code, I got nothing. Are these projectors available only at list price and is there some secret to finding a dealer?

Just to be clear, I am not a total dummy. I was an Engineering group manager at GM before retiring. I just have too many interests to spend all my time on one subject and you will find it more difficult to focus as you grow older! Thank you for any guidance.

Give Mike Garret at A.V. Science a call but I am sure he will post in a second that he has already sent you a P.M. smile.gif

I like Sailor Bill's post as it reflects my situation right now. I have an AE900U and want to move to a larger CIH screen. I looked at the Panasonic AE8000 which makes sense to me budget wise, but it strikes me that it is a bit heavy on the marketing and a bit short on the performance scale to use as a CIH projector. Just a gut feeling, no facts to back that up.

I too have drifted toward the JVC RS48U, which is on the uphill side of my budget at list price.

I'm looking at doing a 106" wide screen in 2.35:1.

I too am older than dirt, but I plan to stay on the top side of it for some time to come. I've got to last long enough for 4K to go mainstream.

I'd have to tear this theater apart to do CIH.

Might as well give us a call - if you can afford an RS48, you can probably afford the new RS49 as well. smile.gif

You and Bill are in for a VERY nice surprise when you get a new projector. Going from a 900U to a new model JVC is quite literally going to be a night/day improvement IMO. I went from a 900U to a RS1 years ago and even that was a HUGE improvement. I am excited for you guys! biggrin.gif That is a TRUE upgrade. cool.gif Report back when you get your new JVCs and enjoy!

+1

Definetly. This is going be a HUGE upgrade in overall picture quality. You'll be very surprised at how well front projection has matured over the last few years.

I'm finally going to be able to see this in 4K. I know the higher res is going to make it a funnier movie.. biggrin.gifcool.gif

Kevin. 6 -0 Sox midway through 5th. If the Red Sox can hold them in the 6th and 7th, that's it. Lights out in the 8 and 9th with Uehara pitching the close out two innings or at least 4 outs in those innings. My guess is he will pitch the last 5 outs.

A cigar and a bourbon coming up in celebration. Life in the 5th is good. smile.gif Cardinals even screwed up a run down.

Do you guys think that's the root of the "Burple" issue on the 55's? I wonder if as Geof intimated the shipping may also be a root cause to such a wide difference from one machine or the other over the last few years. Remember how fantastic my RS50 was but this 55 is no where near spot on.

Oh and thanks for that post update MARK! mad.gif I WAS ONLY IN THE 3RD INNING WATCHING MY DVR 'YA D-BAG! Let me now FFWD. tongue.gifbiggrin.gif

Oh! Just saw the Shane 3 run smash off Zee Green Monstah! Looks like you may be lighten' that stogie after all my friend!!

Do you think I will see an improvement from the RS35U to the RS57?

And do I get bad gas after eating a fully loaded Portillo's combo sandwich . . . Absolutely (to both)! wink.gif

Todd I thought I read or it was mentioned earlier in this thread that these new JVC's will now support 3D Anamorphic, but my neighbor behind me has a an 800U and after seeing my 55 last year said he wanted to go home and throw his PJ in the trash can (FWIW). biggrin.gif

Congrats Mark… BoSox are World Champions!! Maybe someday for my Cubbies. smile.gif

I don't doubt it! The thing I remember most about my 900 and Sanyo Z3 was the vertical banding that drove me insane!

Starting with the 45/55/65 series, all JVC's have been able to do 3D anamorphic.

And that was indeed tragic because even after all the time since then any recovery has been imperceptible.

I don't know what you are talking about. I have been talking to the dog a lot more lately and he tells me I am doing much better, especially since the other bitch left. If I am still crazy, at least I have found compatible company here with you guys! eek.gifbiggrin.gif

Much is relative. And yes AV Science forum is just like a group therapy session without a group leader. And that is really amazing. Do you know how difficult is to convince a male of the species to voluntarily attend group therapy on a consistent basis. And we have sales guys here who no matter how much we collectively beat up on a company always pop up with the same stuff praising the company? smile.gif

You convinced me. I placed a preorder with Mike Garrett this morning for a JVS RS 4910! Thanks for all the input. Now all I need is a new receiver, new screen, new cables etc. etc. I didn't need a new motorcycle anyway. I was somewhat taken aback at the price of 3D glasses and emitter. Does anyone know of an alternative to the JVC glasses?

Motorcycles are dangerous. I should know - I crashed on one at 50 mph once and went to the hospital, to discover the joys of a " sterile brillo pad " to clean asphalt out of my skin. eek.gif I've " crashed " a few times in my home theater, but woke up unharmed ! smile.gif Other than a hangover.............

Buy the new receiver and new screen - it's safer than a Harley..............biggrin.gif
