Tour of Mars 3D Blu-ray

Hello,

I recently picked up a 3D Blu-ray called Tour of Mars 3D off Amazon. It's about an hour long video of Mars that takes you into canyons and craters and over the terrain. I found this really interesting. The 3D is really well done. I hadn't seen anyone else talking about it so I thought I would share it because I haven't seen anything like it.

Interesting.

Although for $20+ for less than 1 hour it is a bit overpriced.

Wasn't this something that was online at one point? On the Nasa website? I vaguely recall something like that but my memory is not all that great anymore.

I'm something of an astronomy buff but I don't feel comfortable doing a blind buy on this. Its not sold by Amazon, but rather one of its partners; there is only one review on Amazon; and the person recommending it here has only made the one post about it. Those are all potential warning flags to me so while I'd love to check it out I think its prudent to wait for some more feedback before making a decision. It would be nice if the distributor could put a few clips on YouTube to sample the quality.

Yeah, the reason I brought it up here was due to the fact that it doesn't seem to have much buzz. I couldn't really find anyone else talking about and I thought it was really good. So it seems like it's either really new or not many people have seen it or something. Not too often do I get to be the one finding something new so I decided I would mention it here. I've read AVS for a while but never had much to contribute before. What other 3D astronomy stuff would anyone recommend by the way? I have IMAX Hubble 3D and IMAX Space Station 3D was recommended to me the other day. Any others?

Based on your recommendation I just ordered Tours of Mars. I also have Mars in 3D-Images From the Viking Mission, Secrets of the Universe and The Universe. Imax Space Station is great.

I own both Hubble 3D and Space Station 3D and really like both of them; great depth (as expected from a natively shot Imax feature) though not much in the way of pop-out but I really loved the subject matter and presentation.

The Universe: 7 Wonders of the Solar System is a fun 3D title that can be hard for short money (currently $15.49 on Amazon); it has lots of very good 3D imagery of celestial bodies (planets, asteroids, moons, etc.)

Space Junk 3D, another Imax 3D feature, is being released September 17. Its being released by Image Entertainment which has a very good track record for releasing quality 3D Blurays. I have it on pre-order.

Thank you so much for the recomendations. I have seen the Images from the Viking Mission 3D Blu-ray and also found that one very interesting. I had never heard of the Universe Seven Wonders of the Solar System 3D Blu-ray before but it also looks very interesting. I definately have to pick that one up! I looked up the Space Junk 3D movie you recomended and it appears that it is playing and is going to continue playing on selected Imax theaters. Unortunately it does not appear to be playing any where close to me. I wish they would release movies like this on a wide range of theaters like they would the latest blockbuster 3D movie. It's been way too long since I have seen a 3D documentary on the big sereen.

Make sure you don't mistakenly order Mars in 3D, http://www.amazon.com/Mars-3D-Images-Mission-Blu-ray/dp/B007WB5CZS done by NASA and Stanford U. from 1980s missions. It is absolutely awful. It has repetitive shots of rock scenes that don't align properly, have bad color and very grainy. I struggled to watch it all the way through. Hardly any content as well.

I watched Tours of Mars last night. The 3D is very deep and I was amazes at the different varieties of landscape, rocks everywhere and deep craters. There is no audio, just music and written descriptions.
