Help! - Sim2 D80 Replacement Options

So - I've bought a house that just happens to have a Home Theatre left behind. Awesome right?!

Long story short - I've been told that the current projector (Sim2 D80 (Not the D80E)) is still an awesome 2D projector. My problem is that I'm a 3D movie buff...

I was originally looking at getting a Sony VPL-HW50ES, Though some people have mentioned that the 2D image will likely be inferior to that of the much older Sim2 D80 that I have.

.I'm after people's opinions please. I need help to make up my mind! (Keep the D80 and give up on 3D for now (again... frown.gif ), or buy a 3D projector like the Sony to replace it and sell the D80.

Relevant Note: I currently have a 92" Screen Technics screen with it - though I am likely to replace that with a 100" LP Morgan screen within the next couple of weeks (Think the room is too small for 110" screen sadly).

Keep the D80 for 2D as the HW50ES will be inferior for 2D picture quality in most areas. I owned the D80 a while back and it was a great product. Go with a cheap 3D only projector. I just bought the Optoma HD25 for strict 3D use and so far it's been a fantastic choice. You could also look into the BenQ W1070 as it offers lens shift (the HD25 does not). You'll save yourself a couple thousand dollars this way.

How do you mount the second projector? The current D80 is ceiling mounted and the structure of the room is not really conducive to a bookshelf / cabinet mount.

If you can't mount it on a shelf then just hang a pole behind the D80 so it is a bit lower and the projector beam misses it.
