Metal Gear Solid 4 in Dolby Digital

I just started playing Metal Gear Solid 4. I know, but better late than never. Anyways, it says that it supports Dolby Digital. But, my AVR does not show Dolby Digital during gameplay, only PCM. Don't get me wrong, the sound is AMAZING. I am just curious why it dos not seem to be sending Dolby Digital sound. I know that my AVR can handle DD and is hooked up right. I didn't see an option in-game to select DD. Any ideas?

yea, your ps3 is decoding your DD audio and sending the signal as pcm to your reciever. thats why your reciever shows PCM. if you want your reciever to show DD during gameplay then you need to get into your ps3 audio setting and switch your audio output from PCM to BITSTREAM. then your PS3 will not decode the DD signal. it will send it to your reciever to do the decoding there.

Way back when I first set up my surround sound I am pretty sure that I set it up that way. For example, I just finished The Last of Us and the whole time the AVR showed "DTS". Also, when watching Blu-rays and Netflix etc. the AVR always displayed the name of the audio encoding, not PCM.
