Recommendations under $1,000

I am in the market for a projector that will be under 1,000, have crisp clear picture in a room with some ambient light. I saw someone with pictures of a epson 8350 a year ago and thought the image was amazing. I had my heart set on ordering it, until I found some reviews on here that say there are some better projectors out at the same money.

3D doesn't really matter to me ( i have a visual impairment that make stereoscopic 3d nearly impossible for me to experience )

I would like to minimize lag because I do some gaming, but minimal.

I would like it to be quiet as it will be sitting somewhere overhead my seating. And I would also like to use whatever I buy to do some outdoor movie nights. I don't have room dimensions that I will be using the projector in, so I thought the adjustability of the 8350 would work great for me.

I also read some on here that the 8350 has some premature bulb blowing issues, is that solved?

Thanks for your help
Chad

I can't speak as to the 8350 bulbs, but I think most people wold say the W1070 is the best under $1000. However, as you mentioned audible noise as a concern, the Optoma HD25/HD131XE is supposed to be quieter at the cost of color accuracy (by some reviews impressions). The HD131XE also supposedly has better blacks than the W1070 and both should be better than the Epson.

I ordered the HD131XE when it was $760, I'm not sure I would choose it over the W1070 when it is now the same price. I am eagerly awaiting delivery. This is my first "serious" projector, replacing an old Epson EX70.

Thanks for the reply. Where does the HD33 fit in the picture?

I think most agree that either of the two new projectors are better than the HD33.

How far the lens of the projector will be from the screen; will it will be ceiling, shelf, or table mounted; and how large a screen you want.
