Pioneer CLD-2850 stuck in Standby Mode

I have a CLD-2850 that was working fine the last time I used it, which to be fair was a couple of years ago. It's been plugged in and on standby all that time. I recently upgraded some components in my system adding a new Pioneer receiver and a Panasonic Plasma. On reconnecting the 2850 the standby light came on as expected but pressing the Power on button (front panel or remote) did nothing. The main display on the 2850 stays dark and the motor stays motionless. None of the buttons do anything so it appears to be solidly stuck in standby mode. Can anyone offer any thoughts as to what might be the problem? Grateful for any help on this since I still have some titles on LD that just are not available on DVD or BluRay.

Thanks,

Gary

You either have a stuck button on the front panel. Make sure there is nothing in the SR jacks on the back I/O or the Front Panel or Power supply is bad.

Hate to say it but unless you can fix it yourself or need the multi-voltage unit it would be cheaper to replace than fix.

Hi Kurtis,

Thanks for your quick reply. I suspected it might be a stuck button and so I already checked each of them to make sure that was not the case. There seems to be good travel on each of them so while it's no guarantee that a contact isn't stuck I think that the fault is elsewhere. There's nothing connected to the player at all so it shouldn't be an SR issue. Although I hadn't thought about that possibility. Is it possible that a defective SR jack on the back panel could cause an issue?

I'm leaning toward it being a PS issue to and even with schematics it might be tough to track down. I'm assuming that not all the voltage rails will be active in standby mode anyway so measuring them may not be of any great help either.

I brought this unit with me to the US when I relocated from the UK several years ago. It's been running on a 110-220V transformer without any problems until now. If I end up having to junk it do you have any recommendations for a decent US model that I should look for. I don't think that the 2850 was the best player that Pioneer ever made but it has served me well for 20 years!

Thanks,

Gary
