Unless you are not married, no family, no kids, no friends, seriously... how much of a nut you must be to take advantage of recording 6 channels at the time? Anyone can explain it to me like I am six years old?
I agree that recording six shows at once might seem that the person recording them suffered from OCD. However, keep in mind TiVo's "Whole House" Strategy via the TiVo Mini.
Each Mini, if it played well with the Roamio and at the moment it doesn't, is going to use a tuner when it is in use. In this scenario six tuners seems just about right for a house with three or four Minis.
Now about the Mini not playing well with the Roamio.
If you use MOCA there are probably no problems. I can't say for sure since I haven't tried this.
Ethernet with the Roamio Basic, no problems they both have a 10/100 adapter and switches in your network should cause no problems. With the Roamio Plus or Pro and Switches you will, most likely, have some problems due to the gigabit adapter in the Plus and Pro. I certainly did.
But wait, there's more. The Mini interface is missing some functionality. You can't access the ToDo List or Season Pass Manager on the Host. You can't switch tuners using the Live TV button on the Mini Remote in spite of the fact that there is word Switch directly above the Button and there are other areas of user interface and function that should be improved.
I would say that the Mini is a work in progress and probably not worth the hassle at the moment. TiVo seems to be aware of many of these problems and is working on firmware updates to take care of some of them.
My advice is to wait until these problems are fixed. My two Minis are going back tomorrow.
