Sony PlayStation 4 in U.S. Stores November 15 for $399 - Page 3

I have a launch day version reserved at Amazon, but have never purchased a console immediately upon release. Is there anything to be concerned about in regards to "bugs" with the initial release of consoles? I don't necessarily NEED to have it launch day, I'm perfectly content waiting a few months if it means getting any possible kinks worked out. Is this normally an issue with new consoles? Thanks!

Well the Xbox 360 had a major bug that lasted about 5 years ( RROD) I would know, I bought 2 of them that died.

If you want to call it a "bug," then yes, there will be features missing that you'll have to buy a PS4 "slim" to get because they rushed the product out before certain hardware chipsets were finalized... and then you'll find out Sony dropped some nifty features from the original PS4 to compensate. wink.gif

I think these companies have learned that in this economy, if you don't "bring it" people will ignore you. Just look at Hollywood or how game purchases, minus the big COD and other annuals such as Madden, have fallen off tremendously.

Saying this, It's been over 8 years since my 360, so I'm ready for some new tech. Can't wait to play Battlefield and Watch Dogs on day one!

Not interested in any FPS. I'm an RPG (mainly JRPG's) and 3rd persion Action/Adventure guy and occasionally play Fighting and Mech-sim games. I'm looking for JRPG's of course, games like Tomb Raider, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Drakengaurd 3 (hopefully that gets localized), Armored Core, Marvel vs Capcom etc. The only thing the PS4 has at launch that interests me is Assasins Creed 4. Pirate simulator that allows for naval combat? Yes please! Watchdogs could be good too, but I need to see more gameplay vids to see if its up my alley. What little I've seen thus far has me slightly interested.

Welcome to my club!! Actually, I'm "stupiderer" 'cause I've already pre ordered a PS4 last month eek.gif

One warning about the PS4 (and likely the X1): you need to be satisfied with the launch games, because Sony has been over-advertising games availability. If you read thru the gaming sites you'll see most titles are "2014" and "still in development/not yet in beta" And, some of the "gameplay" videos Sony has released are not gameplay at all but cinema. Honestly, there's more vapor than substance right now. As recently as a few months back Sony admitted it didn't even have actual consoles for developers to work with.

Yep , PS4 launch lineup seems a little bland but at February 214 Sony will release Infamous SS. and the 2014 line in general looks great.

Since this is a 6-8 years race I do not care much about launch and first year titles since developers do not max console´s power. At the end PS4 surely will have the better games ( graphically talking ) on any console just because the better AMD procesor and RAM (5) ; also with studios like Naughty Dog and Santa Monica surely we will get wonders similar to The Last Of Us or God of War on PS4.

Now they are retracting that plan but the developers are now mad because they will lose out on the second hand royalties they would have cashed in on when the used games are sold.

In any event, nothing I read said one way or the other if 3D is going to be supported in the PS4 in the same way it is in the PS3 which presently allows the PS3 to act as a Blu-ray3D player. Likewise, the xBox One article said nothing about adding 3D capability.

Both are fully 3D capable, and will play 3D blu-ray just fine.  3D support for games is on a case by case basis, and given how everyone loves to go on about how much they hate 3D, they're not touching it with a 10 foot pole in their marketing.  But I suspect plenty of the games support it as well.

good to know it will handle 3D, we want another 3D Blu ray player, and this will kill 2 stones with one bird rolleyes.gif

any word on SACD support?

No SACD or even standard CD support.

Sony has been great at constantly putting out software fixes for this and that. I still amazed at how many updates they've done to the PS3. I wouldn't worry about bugs that will pop up.

PS3 had power consumption/to much noise problems, that is why the PS3 Slim was an improvement. Best is to wait for user threads before buying a PS4 IMO

I'm late to this realization, so I'll put it here in case others might be, too: games are cheaper for the PC than for a console. Since I have a capable HTPC connected to my screen I'm going to pass on the consoles this go-round.

oh, yes I would, every time I think about what else I could have bought, AND had money left over...NOT in the Oppo line, doesn't mean I won't be, eventually...

I've owned a PS2 and PS3 launch units without any issues so I'm hoping for a trifecta with the PS4. Shipping where I live is inconsistent so I pre-ordered at a local store, they're guaranteeing release day availability for pre-orders.

No idea which games to get but I ordered a couple as they were discounted (pre-order promo); BF4 and WatchDogs. I'll also be picking up Knack (I think my son would love it) and maybe KZ or AC. The game I'm really looking forward to is Destiny but that's not out till next year.

I need a new blu-ray player and was going to go with the s790 or get an oppo. Instead, I'll be buying the PS4. The ps3 has been great for me as a blu-ray player and sony is always one of the best IMO only falling short of oppo.

So it's a no-brainer to me to pre-order the PS4. I'm sure the upscaling will be great as always and the rest of the system should function well.

I'm definitely getting this on launch date....since it comes with a one year trial of ps plus it has an advantage over xbox one (if it came with xbox gold membership). I will keep my ps3 and use it for ps3 games while playing on ps4 for ps4 games and play bluray discs and do things that ps3 doesn't that ps3 does....this machine is the cheapest 4k home media device, and i have to upgrade my fios to download 4k movies over the net and buy a 4k tv...once my nearly one year old Vizio 3d smart tv dies down soon....The lineup for ps4 games is pretty good, but not as great as ps3. Ps3 is in its peak. Remember when SNES came out in 91? NES still had great games in its life cycle. When playstation came out, SNES was still popular.

Of course the PS3 has better games to choose from, it's been out for 8 years, the PS4 isn't even out yet ! Seriously? Also who only keeps a TV for one year ?

I hate to say it, but Vizio and quality don't really go hand-in-hand (I know iMagic will claim otherwise with his experience), but throwaway TVs are becoming more common as QC diminishes. Concerning the passing of the baton (so to speak) to the next generation game console and the one prior still being popular, it sounds like another Captain Obvious statement (the second one I've read in this forum in as many minutes).

Specifically, this: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1468563/krell-brings-foundation-av-pre-pro-to-the-new-york-audio-show

When Krell is willing to use a Vizio for its demo, you know the brand is doing something right. My experience has been quite great, that is true. My Vizio is good enough that nothing I've seen in 2013 has made me feel like I need to upgrade, instead of waiting for the next-generation UHDTVs to go on clearance.

Color me surprised yet again, and I can't imagine why they would spare any expense at such an event. smile.gif

Krell is not exactly known for cutting corners, and yeah that event was all about sparing no expense. It gave me a solid frame of reference, as far as audio is concerned. That a Vizio HDTV could fit in so well, in such a high end presentation, that was mere icing on the cake.

For most people, the size of the screen is more important than the quality of the picture. At best one-half of what they watch is HD source. And if you take a large screen in front of an average sofa, the viewing angle is dead-on. This forum attracts geeks as well as average "Joes" for whom an affordable 65" or larger screen is one of the neatest things to come into his daily life. The Vizio has been widely praised for dead-on viewing.

I have my PS4 pre ordered and paid for already as do a lot of Gamers already. To me the choice was easy. As I own a 360, Wii and a PS3, my 360 is basically a dvd player for my 2 year old if he happens to be in the loft, that is all it gets used for. the PS3 on the other hand gets used for a plethora of things including steaming, gaming, blu-ray, etc. (and still will in another room of our house once the PS4 is brought in). My only problem is that my wife bought a Wii U the day it came out. I wasn't too thrilled about the idea of having 4 gaming systems, soon to be 5, she said she 'Had to Have it'... Im not going to lie, I love the Wii U. It has def taken the spot of the PS3 for gaming in the house. It has amazing graphics and awesome media options via online. The PS3 is still used, but the U is by far a superior system. I doubt it will hold a light to the 4, but it is still amazing. I have to laugh to myself when all of these 'experts' have been bashing the U, mostly because the are on Microsoft's n**$. the 360 is crap compared to the Wii U. I never touch my 360. havent in forever. Dont plan on touching a Xbox1 either. (I dont know if this was relevant to any topic or issue being discussed, but whatever)
