DMM is simply conforming the picture to the cover/background ratio and uses standard functions to save to disk.

Another user had cropping issues that were actually related to screen resolution and having a external monitor attached. It might very well be that the guilty part is my code although currently I have no idea why.
Could you try changing screen resolution and/or monitor ?
My environment is Win7 and I tested on a laptop (1366x768) and/or external monitor. I tried changing resolution and actually for me it works.

May be we can continue exchanging by email if you wish (albertocasale@yahoo.com)

Hello Alberto

After trying without any luck all sorts of screen resolution combinations in my Windows XP client and my Mac OS host environment, and also repeating them with and without my 1080p external monitor I noticed the 'Advanced' button in the Windows 'Display Properties' menu:

Just by returning the DPI setting (in the 'Display' pane under the 'General' tab) from 'Large Fonts (120 DPI)' to 'Normal size (96DPI)' the stubborn cropping problem disappeared immediately!

Now of course all text is much smaller. Anyhow, changing the DPI settings back and forth for the occasions that I need to use DMM is OK for me.

Cheers, Martin

PS: I think it would be good to have an updated 'known issues' list on the DMM download page in your Dropbox.

Glad you solved the cropping problem and you're right about the "known issues", I'll add it to the manual
For the local path I tested succesfully with

Storage_label://drive_name/path
And
Storage_name://drive_name_uuid/path

For you it will be
storage_label://DuneHDD/Music
Or
storage_name://DuneHDD_397fc0652097044d/Music

Don't forget to create a favorite prior to use the webapp

Hello again, Alberto

My Dune/DMM setup now functions like a Suisse watch!

I got the local path to work with the web app by using Storage_name://drive_name_uuid/path.

(Then I immediately removed the corresponding question from my post. Alas, you had already started to write your reply to it.)

Anyhow, I read again the DMM Short User Manual pdf and the USING DMC ppt in order to see what constructive suggestions I could make regarding the documentation of the local path topic. These are:

In pdf

page 42 - The comment 'not mandatory' is not helpful for understanding the overall functionality. I suggest you replace it with something like 'not mandatory if you are not going to use DMC or the web app'.

In ppt

page 4 - add

'storage_name://Drive_label_uuid/path'

on the line after

'storage_label://Drive_label/path'.

Another source of confusion to me has been that the 'Label' field gets automatically filled in with the default value 'Dune', but that is actually its SMB server name, not the label of my hard disk volume. I suggest that you either correct or remove this default value, or (as a quick fix) clarify on page 4 in the ppt that the default value assumes that the hard disk volume has the same name as the SMB server in the Dune.

Last but not least I think it would be handier for the user if all the info from the ppt is merged into the pdf, maybe just as an annex at the end of the pdf file.

Again, thank you for having created DMM, and being so dedicated to make it work for everybody.

My best regards, Martin

You can donate from within the program using paypal as I did
Its not in english but easy to follow if you use paypal normally.
It is also in euros but paypal converts
I used currency converter so I knew in my currency what to send
I am sure Alberto would appreciate it
Thanks:)

Thanks to Denass I realise the PayPal Donate link points to a french version. If it is a problem I can provide an english version.

Hi There,

I am new at DMM, but so far I have been enjoying it.

Am I able to create a music playlist?

How Can I do that?

Thanks

Hi renanetl,

Not with the current version, I'm afraid
I'm developing v2.0 which will allow you, with the PC application, to
  • create playlists to be seen/used on TV and WebApp
  • create collections of albums to have easy access to a subset of your library (each collection creates also a playlist with all its songs)

I also plan to extend the capabilities of the webapp to allow the user to dynamically create and manage a playlist by browsing the library and do something like Play, Play Next, Append. Need to check the feasibility and reliability of this but I think it is doable.

V2.0, amongst several other things will also support Cuesheets

Would you be doing like dune explorer where you could have the name of the cd under the cover of the cd.
This is great in dune explorer and when you hilight a title it scrolls. Many cd's have very small type and some have next to none.I also thought if it was unknown title this would be great to make the type what you want so its easy to understand what that title is and especially if its one you compiled yourself--it could be an option to have or not
thanks

It will all be part of 2.0 !
Playlists will work like albums and you can give a title. For other albums you'll need to edit the tags of the songs.
I'm having an issue that I believe is caused by having some albums that are Sountracks with various artists. I have a folder called Various and it has subfolders for each album. eg. Music\Various\Last Action Hero
The Last Action Hero contains all of the tracks and the Folder.jpg cover art. Each track is by a different artist, most of which I have other albums of. If I go to an artist that also has a song on one of the soundtrack albums, none of the albums or songs will play when using DMC or your DMM web app. It gives an error that I will post a little later. if I go into "Preview Mode" and click on any of those albums I get the error in the picture below. Is this a tagging issue? Is there a workaround?

Hi Bob_422,

could you send by email (albertocasale@yahoo.com) the following pieces of info
  • the dune_folder.txt file in the exported menu corresponding to Last Action Hero (it is in the Albums folder)
  • the m3u file corresponding to the album Last Action Hero that is in the folder .DMMplaylists (under your \Music library folder, the file starts with album_)
  • the .txt file corresponding to your menu that is inside MyMusic\Data folder
  • the error msg you got when playing
thx
Alberto

Curiously I hadn't even noticed the Donate button. I was looking for donation info under Actions because it's the main menu of DMM.

(Since I am a little bit old-oldfashioned I suggest that you add something like 'About DMM' at the bottom of the 'Actions' drop down list, and there include links to PayPal, this forum and the DMM download directory.)

Regarding the language versions of PayPal I have noticed different behaviours with different browsers. I don't remember which but at least one of them displays an language selector in the upper right corner. With other browsers the language will change when you select your country, but that selector only appears after you have filled in the total amount of the donation. And if you choose to log in to your PayPal account (if you have one) then the language will default to the country of your account.

The neatest solution would probably be to have the PayPay link point to the language version that corresponds to the currently active user interface language.

Regards, Martin

PS: I have found another item for the 'Known issues' list. The DMM web app will not play any music of an album that contains the # sign in its album name. After renaming (in iTunes) my 'Beethoven: Symphony #5' to e.g. 'Beethoven: Symphony No. 5', and then rescanning/exporting the music library in DMM, it plays as it should. Curiously it is only the album name that may not contain the # sign. Track names with # are not a problem...

After using the DMM Web app for a few weeks, I have just 3 things I would like to see added.
1) The ability to queue up songs as they are playing. This one has been mentioned before but it's still number 1 on my wish list. smile.gif
2) Next and Back page buttons on the Artists and Albums screens. This is really only for when I use it on my PC during the day.
3) This one is just nit picking, but I wish the songs were already visible after selecting an album instead of having to click or tap the + to show them.

I really love this app and the DMM program. It's so nice not having to turn on my tv to browse my collection and it is so much faster than it was using a remote. It has honestly changed they way I listen to my music and made it so much more enjoyable.
Thank you Alberto!

Thanks Bob_422, this type of comment is VERY rewarding !

1) yes I plan to add to the webapp the capability to manage playlists on the fly. I hope to be able to fully implement it
2) actually using firefox or chrome on windows 7 (haven't tested with other combinations) I can "swipe" by keeping the mouse left button pressed and swipe left or right
3) new web app will be more user friendly in that respect

Alberto

I have tried with IE 11 and Chrome on Windows 7, but I can't get to the next page. It either tries to highlight everything on the page or the cursor changes to a circle with a / going through it.

Is there a specific area of the screen I have to click and drag?

Hi

for me, with Chrome and Firefox, it works when I click on a grey area, hold the button and swipe.

I just can't get it to work no matter where I click-hold and swipe. Two little buttons like < > on the bar that says Page 1/however many you have would be great in the future.

I also thought of another feature I would use quite frequently. The ability to random play my entire collection. If a song come on that I don't feel like listening too, I could hit the next track button and so on.

Hi there,
DMM 2.0 is almost ready to start a beta testing (at least for the TV part, WebApp might take a bit longer).
You can check this video that shows what DMM 2.0 does.

Here is the list of new features/behaviors of the PC program
  • Bug fixes. Amongst others the bug about cropped images when using bigger icons/fonts in Windows 7
  • New PC UI
    • navigate within your library in a WYSIWYG fashion using point-and-click and keyboard shortcuts
    • Library tool pane that can be turned ON/OFF and also detached as a separate window
    • Template editor tool pane that can be turned ON/OFF and also detached as a separate window
  • New Menu Configuration window
    • DMM remembers the previously used settings and let you pick them instead of entering them every time
    • You can now modify the settings of a menu and apply them without having to delete/recreate the menu
  • Folder Browsing mode
    • DMM scans your folders but does not create Artists or Genres, only Albums and Folders
    • you can then browse your library the way you created it exploring its folder tree
  • Playlists: DMM lets you create your own playlists, i.e. your custom albums
  • Collections: DMM lets you create your own collections of albums, sort of a custom genre
  • Support of CUE SHEETS:You can have an album made of one or more files each containing multiple tracks. If you have embedded or external .cue files describing the various tracks, DMM will seamlessly create an album equivalent to any other
  • Save the covers back to library album folders
    • If you search/modify an album cover you can ask DMM to store the cover file in the album folder of your library
  • Improved template options
    • Each page can have a title
    • You can have CD case for the albums
    • Artists can be listed as names instead of pictures
    • The ABC (alphabetical index) can point to albums instead of artists
    • You can access albums by Year

The WebApp will also bring several new functionalities, namely
  • View albums as covers or lists
  • Improved/extended access to the various sections of your libraries with search capabilities
  • User selectable list of sections to have
  • Playlist management. Add/remove songs, albums, etc. Play, Play Next, Play Last. Shuffle, Play Gapless

Stay tuned !

Sounds great
Looking forward to trying it out

Which Dune units does your program work on? Particular recommendation?
Thread Starter
No special requirements/recommendations.
For usage on TV, DMM creates a standard jukebox relying only on dune_folder.txt files and images. For the WebApp you need the P control API which comes standard with every Dune (unless you have a very very old firmware). I heard that possibly firmware b8 has some issues with IP control (never tried myself) but anything lower than b8 works.

Personally I have a dune-hd TV 101 and 130515_2104_b6 firmware. Haven't installed yet the newer 131213_0131_b6 nor the beta b8 (because also of the info on IP control);

I've created and export the menu to my NAS but how do I install DMM on my Dune?

Does the exe need to be running on my PC for DMM to work on the Dune (using DMC)?

And should there be audio with the videos?

Thanks smile.gif
Thread Starter
what do you mean with "And should there be audio with the videos?" ?

The idea of DMM is very simple (and the same as other programs like Yadis, Zappiti and alike)
- you execute DMM on your PC but just when need to create/update/export a menu
- you can then close DMM on your PC
- if the menu is exported on your NAS than you can go to the Dune navigate to the right folder and enjoy the result on TV with the Remote Control (or DMC°

if you want to use DMM webapp than you also need to
- install the plugin (check the user manual about how to do it, it is very simple)
- make your Menu folder a Dune Favorite
- point the browser of your device to the right URL (in the user manual)

Does that make sense ?
That make sense, I'll try it now, many thanks.

I meant the YouTube videos - do they have any audio?
Thread Starter
Unfortunately not, I preferred to do a simple video with titles.
Sorry for being lazy smile.gif

Not a problem, I just wanted to check in case YouTube was playing up. And thanks again for your help :-)
