I recently took my kids to a drive in movie and they LOVED it! As did I. However, we had to drive over an hour to get to one and as I understand it there are less than 400 drive in theaters left in the USA. A buddy of mine and I believe that we could have a really good go of it here in the area that we live (Southeast USA) because of the extended season, etc. I've been reading about the new digital requirements that are going to affect the remaining drive in theaters and the costs for a new digitatl projecter would be in the $60 to $80 K range. So here's the question: For a professional digital rig, what should I expect to pay and are these projectors DLP like the smaller home versions or is there something more to it? I realize that you need a true light cannon to pull it off but I have to believe that it can be done. I'm just toying with the idea for now so any and all thoughts and comments are appreciated.
