Theater sub build

Thread Starter
I'm building my own sub system for a dedicated home theater. My question for the gurus is what sub setup. I mean I could build 12 18s and have massive bass at a certain frequency while others suffer. Wouldn't building a sytem with say 4 18s, 4 12s and maybe 4 10s cover the bass spectrum much better?

You are better off going with a dual car sub, dual PA sub combo, for lower and upper bass.
They complement each other very well.
That's what I did, and it's awesome.

You can't beat PA subs for upper bass, they are 99db/w or better usually, or about 10x more efficient than a 89db/w car sub.

A 18" sub shouldn't have a problem going up to 120hz so I don't see why you would mix different sized drivers.

It would if anything be worse, and the unnecessary complication of having to tri-amp would greatly add to expense and system complexity. As for the need for twelve eighteens, only the very largest of rooms need more than four.
