Did the forum just break? - Page 2

So I took the screenshot that shows the missing icons...not sure what else I can do to convey that issue? Possibly its just that the site utilizes features that are not 'work safe' and don't work behind corporate firewalls?

You emailed that pic right?

the person who is getting popped back up to the top of the page when clicking more, that's usually a symptom of the scripts not being fully loaded when the action is taken. Refresh, let it load completely, try it again. Snapping tot he top of the page usually is due to that.

yes, I emailed two pics - one had that issue.

As for popping to the top of the page, no matter how long I wait it happens. However, I have noticed that the profile page will load, it will say 'error on the page' at the bottom, then it will be replaced by 'done' only for me to hover my mouse over the 'more' button and have the 'done' revert back to 'error on the page' again.

I'm interpreting this as a sign to get back to work =]

I'm seeing intermittent issues as well, for example: missing "hover" popups and sometimes "Mark as Read" will go to a new page with the buttons, instead of displaying a popup window.

Reloading the page fixes it, so far.

I'm guessing certain javascript sources are not loading, probably yahooapis.com. From experimenting in the past I recall that disabling that turned off the link hover.

Either a problem at their server or some timeout set too strictly.

I suppose it could be a timeout in my Firefox. It gets updated pretty often and who knows what they are doing.

I just saw this, too:
Code:

1 user thought this was helpful.

ok"}

I was giving Thumbs Up to a posting in http://www.avsforum.com/t/1197724/review-older-films-here-1979-and-earlier

In Firefox: used BACK to return to the previous screen and Thumbs Up worked then. I've noticed with these various errors that BACK corrects it just as Reload does; I had not noticed that BACK causes javascript to reload; does it?

See my post #22 above about the review thumb bug.

Some new wackness going on.

Posts are showing only as much as the popup preview. In this post: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1489239/blu-ray-3d#post_23704190 I see:
Quote:
It's pretty straightforward:Regular Blu-ray = 2D.3D Blu-ray = 3D.Yes, many 3D TVs can convert 2D content to 3D on the fly, but the quality is generally very poor. It does not even remotely approach...

If I Quote it for reply I see:

Yes, many 3D TVs can convert 2D content to 3D on the fly, but the quality is generally very poor. It does not even remotely approach the quality of a real 3D movie (or even a professional conversion).

^ Same here. When viewing a thread, some but not all posts display as only a few lines ending with an ellipsis (...).

If you Quote or Edit one of those, the full, original text is still in there.

Just started happening.

Just wanted to chime in with a "the forum's broken for me too". Hope it's easy to fix.
Looks like the fix is happening now. The threads I spotted it in are now displaying correctly again (no shortened posts ending in an ellipsis).

Yours appears to be something specific to your employer's IE 8 install. No one else has been able to reproduce it after many attempts.

Happening again. This should be a huge post: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1432162/official-oppo-bdp-103-owners-thread#post_22457067

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

That one is back to normal now.
Mike it seems to be happening on random posts, and if you guys are not doing something yourself to "fix" specific posts, then it is going away by itself, too.

I've seen it today on short posts (say 8 lines) and long posts like the one Bill cited just above. Also with both posts made today and with older posts (again like that one).

Even when it is happening, nearby posts display correctly. Reloading the page doesn't "cure" it. While it is happening, it seems that everyone who checks the post sees the problem. Once it "fixes" itself for a given post, everyone sees the correctly displayed text again.

The text is really all still there (e.g., if you Quote or Edit you see it all), but it's just not being displayed properly in normal thread viewing.

And as best I can tell this just started happening today.

After the last cache clear tonight (just before my last post above) they believe all are back to normal. Please let me know if any slip through.

Thanks
I just checked a bunch of threads in the Blu-ray Players forum that I'm familiar with, and no problem at the moment either with a page or so of posts at the start of the threads or the end of the threads.

So if the problem reappears in any of those threads we'll know it must be something that happened again after that cache cleaning.

Great!

Just got this when trying to edit a post:

"AJAX response unable to be parsed as valid JSON object."

It worked the second time without a page reload.

I've seen that error pop up a couple times in the past.

By the way: I went through a period where javascript did not seem to be loading consistently, rather often, and I would have to refresh the page to get proper functionality.

Past couple of weeks the forum has been well behaved so that seems fixed.

I don't know if it was huddler or some weirdness with Firefox.

I still see that JSON error popup from time to time. A second try works without a need to refresh the page or do anything else.
