Battlefield 4 - Page 3

I haven't graduated to the point of understanding how to monitor my pc like that, sorry. I've heard other people say it is supposed to be along the lines of 5% with a single card and 20% in sli. From what I have gathered from OCN, I think the people that have used it like it better than FRAPS, which I have never used.

As far as the recording time, I think that might possibly be card based. I know you can record longer than 20 minutes, but I'm not sure if all ShadowPlay eligible cards can do unlimited time frame capturing. I think the thing is, possibly, that the DVR feature of it only goes back 20 minutes. I set mine right now for 2 minutes. If I decide I like that clip, I hit the button and it downloads that 2 minutes into my storage drive. Or the other option is you can just hit the record button, and I think it will just start recording until you run out out storage space. I accidentally left it on record for over 20 only once. Most of my clips are just a few minutes, and I try to stop it in between the action to break up the files. It is pretty simple with 2 hotkeys.

But yeah, you can either just turn the recorder on and off in live mode. Or if you decided you last the last few minutes you hit the other hot key and it just downloads it. You can select in 1 minute increments, from 1-20 minutes, for how far back to go for that feature. You set that timer in a previous menu, so that it just works with the hotkey.

FRAPS does all of that, including the recording buffer like ShadowPlay does. But FRAPS can be a major performance hit depending on hardware (Mostly CPU). I haven't tried with a lot of games yet on this rig, but it mostly seems to be fine.

On my old rig I would record 1080p @ 30fps. However on this PC very few games run below 60 when maxed out so theoretically I could record 1080p @60fps.

But again if the performance hit is less than FRAPS while keeping the quality I got, I may change over. I'm running the 326.19 drivers right now due to them being better in all the games I play than the newer ones, but I may give it a shot this weekend.

I say go for it, most people seem to like it compared to what they were using it seems.

Here is my first good Attack Boat run. A uncut 13 minute continuous run. I felt pretty good about it.

Anyone else struggling to get the battlescreen to work on a tablet/phone? Im using a note 3 and when i try to join the game in the droid app it says i need to be in the game on the pc even though i am. Really frustrating!
Haven't tried it yet. I'm thinking I should pick up a super cheap monitor for my 2nd screen.

Loving this game, but it is showing my Gaming laptops age (Sager NP8130 with i7 2630QM, 8GBDDR3, and Nvidia GTX 460M). I can run it in 1080 but really had to dial down the details. Now to figure out how to sweet talk my wife into letting me build a new gaming desktop PC.

mph,

is that the same video from the psn thread? If so, very good run with the tv missile. i've played a bit on my old pc. lots of crashes but I juts read that the new amd beta may fix those crashes. starting to think about building a new rig. I think I have the same pc that I used to play bf2 on except for the upgraded graphics card which I think is an amd 68xx

Yeah, same video.

PC is just a mess right now. Basically the game is pretty much broken with every single server crashing and sometimes lagging / rubber banding from time to time. Hopefully they get everything sorted out soon. I'm surprised it is still going on like it is still hour one of day one. I can still manage to get a few consecutive good games in sometimes, but it is certainly difficult.

Guess it is that time of year, with black friday and new gpus have been coming out for a while now. Could probably do pretty good by the months end.

I think I may have misunderstood. To get the 2nd screen to work for BF4, do I need a separate pc to display that or can one pc do both. I'll have to look into that.

Your PC should be able to display both depending on the output of you video card. I'm assuming it will have at least one DVI and possibly and HDMI as well? Once you get the second monitor you can set it up under windows fairly easy. With my laptop I use the laptop screen to monitor system temps and GPU performance (MSI afterburner) and then game with a Dell 22" Monitor connected to my laptop. With BF4 it would be nice if we could have the Map on a second screen biggrin.gif
post #70 of 125
That's the whole point, for me at least. It is my understanding that we can put the map on the 2nd screen, along with being able to change the load out there as well. At least I think that is how it works.

I did not know it. I was making loadout changes on the webpage which works just fine since I do not unlock stuff all that fast anyways and can quickly change out a class after I die. I'll have to experiment this weekend with the map if you can put it on a second screen.

mph - the pc version is always rough in the beginning. I recall the same for bf3 which is kind of why i switched to xbox...plus there were a few good squadmates there:) I just finished an hour or so or playing and did not get disconnected once. I did have the usual sound issues which i'm sure they will sort out eventually. really needing a new pc to play this game...working on choosing new components that I'll hopefully have this weekend.

What component you going with more specifically what video card? I'm itching to build a new gaming desktop, but low funds and a wife is holding me back.

A GTX 760 or a Radeon 7950 can be had for around $250, and depending on your CPU can average 72fps (with 48 minimum) on 64man Operation Locker. Just saw someone post those results today.

Not sure if the CPU was OC'd but it was an i5-2500K and the 7950 was running at 1000/1350

This was at 1080p on a full server too.

arutha,

I currently have the following in carts at amazon and newegg:

1) i5 4670k or i5 3550p. still debating this one. it's about $40 more to go with the newer gen haswell
2) samsung 840 evo 250gb ssd
3) antec 900 black mid tower case
4) gskill trident x 16gb 2400 ram
5) corsair rm650 650w power supply 80 plus gold
6) asus maximus vi hero mb or asus maximus vi formula. getting another rog mb because my current one has been running great since 2008
7) still haven't decided on a graphics card. my preference would be to buy a r9290x and install it in my racing cockpit (running triple screens) pc and then take the radeon 7970 that's in the racing pc and put it in this new pc. problem is that it's hard to find a r9290x right now. if not the r9290x, then it will probably be the r9280x.

I figure this build will likely last at least 3-5 years based on my last gaming pc's lifespan and will be fast as all get out compared to my current gaming pc. All of these components are necessary because my current mb has a 3gb sata pipe so I see no reason to install a 6gb sata ssd. so if I buy a new mb, then i need a new cpu to fit, a new power supply to fit the mb, new mem and new case. at least that's how I justify it:)

getting back to bf4, no crashes tonight after installing the new radeon beta drivers.

My cousin got married and is having a celebration after Christmas near Arvada, CO where my aunt and uncle live. I'm going to try and make it there.

I see there is a Microcenter in Denver, but not sure if that is a long drive for you.

I recently built my 1st ever desktop, and if you haven't seen the thread I made seeking advice, here it is...http://www.avsforum.com/t/1477308/help-mphfrom77-get-a-pc-for-multiple-uses

I ended up buying about half my stuff from microcenter and the other half from Newegg. Microcenter will match prices. They just have to be able to jump online and verify them.

I've heard different things about Battlefield games with i5 vs i7 cpus. Don't know if it makes that much difference, but I think some people think it does.

If you are not familiar with Microcenter, they run 2 week ads. I found they had the best prices on cpu / motherboard combo's, and cases, but that Newegg had better prices on gpu's, ram and power supply. If I would've had all my ducks in a row though I could have just had them match prices and just picked everything up when I was at Microcenter. The ram was slim pickings though at my Microcenter.

I have had people tell me though, if you have a Microcenter near you then you have the best of both worlds basically.

They allowed me to get my i7 4770k and Gigabyte z87-udh4 (1150 socket) for the combo price of $355 at least.

Their current ad runs through the 10th and can be viewed online.

BTW, I just ended up having other things to do this past Sunday when we played and couldn't get back on.

Ack. Sorry mph. I didn't see your other thread. You probably already figured it out, but you probably hit the tilde key by mistake and you got stuck in the console. One of the few keys they didn't (don't?) let you rebind for whatever reason. There are many people who used to hit that key on accident so much that they just pried it off their keyboard. lol

As for the i5 vs the i7, it does indeed make a difference (from my own experience). Most BF benchmarks you see online are for single player only, where the CPU isn't that important. But multiplayer is much, much more CPU intensive. A 4770k like mph or even a 3770k would be great.

As for your video card, AMD just released the 290 for $400 and it's a performance beast. But, like the 290x, it's loud and hot. If you can wait a month or so, custom coolers should tame the card. If you can't wait, then Nvidia's recent price drops are awfully enticing.

I have a tendency to hit the Tilde key to often on BF3. I downloaded autohotkey and used that and it worked like a charm for awhile. Then Punkbuster started kicking me from servers for using it. Once I realized it was that program I had to disable it and learn to not hit the damn key. Why Dice does not let you reprogram it to an out of an away key is beyond me. Some of us prefer the number key for weapon switching and the tilde key is just to close to the primary weapon!

My friend used to do the same thing so he decided to get a new keyboard (same as mine actually), and he's only accidentally hit it once since then. In the two years I've played it, I could probably count the number of times I've hit the tilde key accidentally on one hand, and I use the number keys to switch weapons as well. I'm not saying it is the way your keyboard is laid out, but it could be a factor. That being said, I agree. It's inexcusable that you can't rebind that button.

I also caved and got BF4 since it was on sale at GMG the day after release. Haven't played all that much though...much like with BF3, I'm waiting for them to sort out the crashes.

Patch goes live tomorrow.

They don't go into too much detail on the fixes in this post, but they do address the larger ones:

1) Reduce the number of crashes
We believe this update will solve a large portion of the most commonly occuring game crashes, and the improvement in overall stability should make a big difference for many players.

2) Eliminate a network sync bug
If you’ve been experiencing situations in multiplayer where it appears that you are taking damage from enemies through walls, you might have been the victim of a network sync bug. In this game update, we have identified and eliminated one such bug that caused this type of gameplay experience. We are continuing to work on more multiplayer optimizations concerning network performance.

3) Improve Network Smoothing
We have made some improvements to the ”Network Smoothing” functionality that you can find in the OPTIONS>GAMEPLAY menu. The Network Smoothing slider governs a group of settings that aim to produce a tighter multiplayer experience based on your specific packet loss situation.

This is just IMO stuff. I just can not get into playing BF4. I was so looking forward for BF4 but after a few sessions of the BETA, I just found it the same old same old with a few new features. I am also having probm in getting into playing the SP since it feels just like the last few BF games. Also with all the issues of servers with MP I just do not want to waste any time on the game until they get a few patches out. This is the 1st BF game that I haven't already spent a multi few hundreds of hours on after it was released. Just started playing XCom Enemy Within, along with World of Tanks, that will hold me over until they fix BF4. Again just IMHO stuff.cool.gif

I have really been enjoying the game mode Obliteration lately. Well actually, it is the only game mode I have been playing for over a week now.
After the update, I got a bunch of disconnects tonight. I then downloaded a new copy of punkbuster and it seemed to resolve my issues.

Second Assault launch trailer:

Metro might actually be playable now. tongue.gif I loved both Caspian and Firestorm so I'm glad to see those.

Damn, I really need to get a Gaming desktop. I Feel like I am missing so much visually with my reduced settings to make it playable at 50FPS. I can turn stuff up, but it drops down to about 30FPS which is to low for multiplier.
I'm a fan of the Battlefield series, and BF4 sure is a lot of fun specially now that stability has improved(still a work in progress though).

Been using shadowplay on a GTX760 and there's no noticeable penalty in framerate, the quality of the file is pretty good and already encoded in H.264 so files are smaller than what you get with FRAPS. I am not using the shadow mode, just turning capture On and Off when desired and that dedicated encoding chip works wonders.

EA should offer a really nice discount on Premium to early adopters for all the trouble during launch. Maybe a Black Friday deal!!!?
