I'm looking for advice on Home Theater Equipment. I will post my first Inquiry in the appropriate thread
I am from Israel. I am here to learn as much as possible and maybe give my 2c opinions from time to time.
I enjoy audio and video using the following equipment:
Hope to learn from you all,
AVS Members, my name is Gary and I live in Sugar Land, TX. I got on this forum indiretly by seeking ideas for a DIY flip down TV ceiling mount for my patio. I found information here that has steered me in the right direction, so am looking to contribute where I can, if I do decide to build one. I've been into light AV stuff for years, but my main hobby is more about hot rods. I do however have some old school equipment that serves us very well for loud upstairs entertainment. SONY XBR 60"/Onkyo Receiver/Hafler XL280 amp for Infinity RSBIII Reference fronts and Klipsh others.
Hi there -
Thanks for the welcome. I'm from Dallas, TX. I'm in the process of setting up an HTPC. So far I've successfully installed an HDHomerun Prime to my network router that has a cable card from Time Warner so I've been able to completely remove my cable box from my living room (for starters). My goal is to find a media center that is robust enough to meet all of my media needs within one application. I joined the forum to look around for advice on home theater PC in general and to look for other media centers. I've found that many that have all of the features I want (J River to be my favorite so far) do not support cablecard's premium content. I'm here to look for advice on other media centers or how to enhance windows media center a little more to improve the user experience.
@yonakj - the best media center on earth is free http://xbmc.org/about/
Thanks for the tip. Many people I work with like it, but from what I've read it doesn't support premium content. What I mean by that is digital HBO and Showtime and channels like that that come through my cablecard.
Hi everyone. I am new as a member of AVS but have been following the forum for information for years now. I have, without any doubts, the utmost respect for this forum for its vast number of knowledgeable people that are unselfish, unbiased, and easy to talk to on top of their devotion to helping others. I know this will be a wonderful decision to have finally gone ahead and joined! Thanks to all in advance.
I came across this forum while researching projectors for my media room. I have converted a small bedroom into a theater/media room. I've attached a rough (very rough) sketch of what it is currently like.
I will be posting in the appropriate forum for further advice and look forward to hearing from others in the community.
(Edit) The image below is not accurate as it doesn't have my center channel speaker or any of the other electronics in the room (receiver, ps3, etc).
Thanks for the welcome Scott.
I found this site by way of my local electronics retail store.
A young salesman suggested that AVS Forums was probably my best source for up to the minute information on entertainment systems.
Based on the latest audio and visual equipment available, especially in today's ever changing world of whiz bang gadgetry, I hope to gain some useful insights into the audio/visual components on offer to Home Theatre enthusiast like myself.
My ancient, Denon AV 3801 receiver had a coronary in a thunderstorm the other day and unfortunately it couldn't be revived.
So now, I am looking for a replacement for my trusty old Denon.
I am sure I will find all sorts of helpful advice and guidance in my search for the correct receiver, not only to drive my home theatre speakers, but to do so in a manner that leaves the neighbors shaking in their arm chairs.
I am an Industrial Electrician by trade, working with advanced computer systems, communications and heavy fixed machinery.
In my job I regularly get to play with all types of electronics, so in private life, my home theatre system and my 27" iMac are my toys that I just couldn't live without.
