Because PayPal is how the contest has worked since Jan. It's been fine until recently when they became a full on company, they Incorporated. So that just changed everything.

I could just give them the list of parts and they order it, but I want the order to be on MY account incase I have to RMA or warranty exchange anything, so I'll just wait for now.

I am not surprised. tongue.gif

So we are not sure if it will be here by Friday? redface.gif

It won't be. It's estimated to ship on Thursday. So it'll be Monday at the earliest most likely.
Damn. That would have been perfect for the weekend.

Yeah, no kidding, birthday weekend lol. The case may show up on Friday or Saturday though, but the rest is still 'processing'

There is no bottle on the parts list. Epic fail! There should, at the very least, be one good luck smoke involved.

Couldn't fit it into the budget man, the grand total came to $2,494.50. I got $5.50 left, that's it lol.

Man, the benefits of living a couple hours from the NewEgg warehouse. I ordered the parts yesterday morning, they're already here in town to be delivered today! 3day shipping turned into overnight ftw!

Oddly.... not bumped.

Nice job!

Hows the noise and temps? You going to do any overclocking?
Thread Starter
Noise is minimal, quieter than my old one actually. Temps so far have been great. CPU peaks in the upper 40C range during benchmarks, GPU peaked at 62C.

I plan to do some OC'ing definitely, but I'm going to wait a week at least to let the thermal paste get worn in correctly. My mobo has 4 OC profiles already built in ranging from 3.9 to 4.7Ghz. Might try those out first, see what can be handled stable.
What's the CPU's idle temps?
Thread Starter
28-33C usually, nice and low.

Big problem though, turns out the motherboard is faulty, causing hard-locks with greater frequency. Couldn't even use Windows as it locked the instant it loaded. Started an RMA, got the mobo pulled and every little thing it came with back in the box, going to ship it back tomorrow. Hoping the turn around time is short. but I doubt it. Probably won't see a new one until week after next.

So it occurred to me that maybe I needed to update the BIOS of the mobo. Put it all back together (which also let me reseat everything) updated the BIOS, and it's been up for a few hours now and fine (so far). May not have to deal with RMA at all.

Great!

Seem to have fixed that issue as the comp is still running strong with no hard locks or shut offs. Scott can attest to that as we ran a bunch of game benches and tested things out. I think there's an issue with the 327 Nvidia drivers as my card doesn't seem to like MSAA until I restart, but other than that? GOLDEN!

Update!

- Fixed whatever the issue was with the hard locks.
- Fixed the MSAA issues by rolling back to the 326.19 beta drivers
- OC'd the CPU to a stable 4.3GHz @ 1.250v
- OC'd the GPU to 1.11GHz core clock @ stock voltage. No memory overclock yet.

New bench scores -

Unigine Valley - 2790
Unigine Heaven - 1477
3D Mark (2013) Fire Strike - 9631 (With OC'd CPU but stock GPU I got 9108, so this was a hefty increase)
3D Mark (2013) Fire Strike Extreme - 4972 (With OC'd CPU but stock GPU I got 4697, so this was a hefty increase
3D Mark 11 Extreme - 5247

These are hefty bumps over stock (I didn't run Fire Strike at stock clocks)

Stock benches, CPU and GPU both unmodified

Unigine Valley - 2508
Unigine Heaven - 1336
3D Mark 11 Extreme - 4887

Not bad. Overclocking the GPU memory should also have a noticable effect and increase your FPSage.
One question. Does it perform & look noticeably better than what you had under real time game stress? I ask this because you had a great system before this one. And this one is very impressive based on the above parts profile. So is the change really noticeable for you?
Thread Starter
Huuuugely noticeable yes. While my old system ran everything fine with settings tweaked (with the exception of PlanetSide 2 and ArmA III, both rather unplayable). This system blows that one completely out of the water.

I can play absolutely everything with the settings turned all the way up. In most cases at 50 to 60 Fps or higher. ArmA III and PlanetSide 2 still like to dip lower than 40 but they're unoptimized games.

This is the definition of set it and forget it. Just set everything at max and play. No need to tweak settings in 99.9% of games.

Sweet! I envy your luck on this prize. I should have asked you to give me 6 lottery numbers a few weeks ago. BTW...when you get some more quality time gaming with this setup keep us posted as to whether you encounter hiccups. Well Done!

Haha, I don't think I'm quite THAT lucky, at least when it comes to the lottery.

Some new bench scores having overclocked the memory on the GPU by 300MHz

Valley - 2935
Heaven - 1521
FS - 9871 (so close to 10k lol)
FSE 5076 (woot broke 5k)
3DM11 Extreme - 5292

Also tried out the BF4 Beta today using the benchmark mode in FRAPS to get a MinMaxAvg from full rounds

32man Domination

Min - 51
Max - 106
Avg - 78

64man Conquest

Min - 36
Max - 136
Avg - 81

So far it's had no trouble running anything. I get dips into the 30s in Borderlands with PhysX on high, but I expect that with all the particles and objects flying around. In Arma 3 it runs fairly well maxed out, but I get dips into the 20s if there's tons of smoke and such.

If there's any game you want me to try let me know, I probably have it. and if it's got a built in benchmark, even better.
How about Metro LL? It has a pretty nice benchmarking tool. I had to disable PhysX for the final battle to get an acceptable framerate with my rig.

Done

I can get 10+ extra fps by disabling SSAA, but considering most of the game is NOT like the D6 level, I'll be getting higher than 40avg. That minimum of 19 lasted for all of about 1 second so I take that in stride. I'll end up playing through the game once more for the 'good' ending and I'll use these settings.

GPU load was 94-99% the entire benchmarking session, CPU load was 41%
