Pro Amp for passive Subs?

Anyone ever use a "Pro style" amp to power a passive subwoofer? I don't really know anything about these types of amps and how well it would work in a home system.

Any thoughts?

Probably more info in the subwoofer and diy speakers & subs forums. Also search, there are several threads on the subject https://www.google.com/#q=pro+amp+subwoofer+site:avsforum.com

I use one to drive 5 subs.

For a detailed discussion of amps to drive subs, see here.

Long story short:
Advantages are cost per watt, reliability, more reasonable warranty policies.
Disdvantages are looks, often lack of remote on/standby trigger, fan noise, sometimes gain-stage issues, may not fit in media cabinets designed for consumer audio gear. Also, some Class D pro amps may throw off enough RF interference to disrupt radio or OTA HDTV signals. (They are not required to have the same shielding that consumer products are.)
