The Official "Rush" movie thread

As far as I know there is no thread dedicated to this movie yet so I thought I'd start one.
It is the long anticipated Ron Howard movie about Formula 1 racing.
Comes to theaters September 27, 2013.

A Ron Howard movie is long anticipated? Huh. I'd never even heard of this one until the TV ads started airing last week.

I saw the first trailer in April or May. Since then I've seen it countless times in theaters (as well as small behind-the-scenes interviews with the filmmakers and the real Nikki Lauda) and read about the film quite a few times on the net. So for me, "long anticipated" is justified. The two names that got me interested in the first place were Ron Howard and Chris Hemsworth - oh and Olivia Wilde of course!!!!!!! wink.gif ..I didn't notice up until recently that Hans Zimmer was doing the music as well, which is another reason, to me, to see the film.

It has been talked about for a long time by people in certain circles and opened in Europe to rave reviews but is not quite as mainstream as say....another Batman movie.

Absolutely! After all, what has Ron Howard done? Come to think of it, though, Howard has won two Oscars and directed Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind,, Cinderella Man, and Frost/Nixon, Although it's popular among the cogniciti to dis Howard he has built a commendable record. Those of us, like me, who are both Ron Howard fans and love motor sports, especially Formula One, have long anticipated Rush. In addition to Howard's impressive ensemble cast, his screenwriter was Peter Morgan, who was nominated for Oscars for both Frost/Nixon and The Queen. All of that gives me high hopes for Rush.

Ron has done a thing or two. Clearly actors love to work with him.

Oscars or no Oscars (and it should be noted that his two are both for the same movie, one for directing and one for producing), the only Ron Howard movies I can tolerate are Splash, Parenthood and The Paper. And even those, I could easily go the rest of my life without watching any of them again and not feel like I'd missed anything.

After suffering through all 372 agonizing hours (subjective time) of The Da Vinci Code, it will be many, many years before I watch another Ron Howard movie again.

Rush

A worthy successor to Grand Prix (1966) and Le Mans (1971).

Will see opening week.smile.gif

It would be nice if it's NOT another Driven (i.e. a twinkie fest with cars in the background)
Frankenheimer's Grand Prix at had driving and the race as main characters in the film.
La Mans doesn't register in this category IMO.

Just a thought wink.gif

It is not. Rush is a film based on fact. Grand Prix and Le Mans are fiction. Besides, what was wrong with Steve McQueen doing all of his own driving? I suggest that you see it on a big screen. Your thought is inappropriate for someone who hasn't seen Rush. rolleyes.gif

So you're saying Josh's opinions are often wrong? If so, whose opinions are correct? It seems to me, unlike a lot of people here, Josh refuses to lower his "bar". Can't say I blame him.

Speaking of "the bar", South Park's "Raising the Bar" (James Cameron) won a Primetime Emmy.

Great movie! Definitely worth going to see.

Just got back from an afternoon showing, with the guys, as spouses did not want to see a "car movie" ...their loss as Rush was well written, and shot with a nice soundtrack too.
Most of all, the character development puts it ahead of either Le Mans or Grand Prix IMO.
See it!
