Sony VPL-VW500ES - 4k Projector - 2013 - Page 16

In comparison it looks like a toy hahaha.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

One would have to be blind not to be able to identify which was which looking at the lenses. Also, there are no markings on the 500/600 lens which indicate to me its a prototype at some level. Also my heart goes thumpy the thump every time I read the 4K CRISP focus marking on the 1000ES lens barrel. Its like naming a restaurant dish Crispy something.. Crispy fish. If you add the word Crispy, you sell a lot more. Would you order something labeled Mushy Tushy? No Sir. I want my lens to be labeled 4K Crisp focus. That pushed me over the edge for me to buy my 1000ES. Now if you excuse me its time for my crisp toast, strong coffee, crispy bacon (one slice) and runny scrambled eggs.

Does that hood around the 500 lens serve a function, or is it just to make the lens appear bigger, like high heels? Maybe it helps the color sensor?

Of course, if it performs well, that's all that matters.

I'll add your question to the 500/600 questions to be asked Sony at Cedia thread
post #455 of 1083
Can you also ask if the lens has an automatic lens cover like the VW1000es?

I could not see any documentation referring to this.
Question added. I will not be asking because I won't be there. BigmouthinDC has volunteered to ask the questions.

Hi Mark,

I believe its an inlet for the PJ cooling system?
I don't know. Perhaps the metal is some sort of heat sink. I haver tried to see if air is entering the case from the lens area. I will take one of the tail feathers shed by my McCaw and experiment when I get a chance.

A sheet of toilet paper works well for testing a draft.

I trust the eagle has landed. The toilet paper can be used for a variety of more important uses and should not recklessly used for non essential actions. The bird feather is readily available and unless you want it for your cap or a dip in a well ink pen is ideally suited for the task and wastes not. I am essentially glued home at my computer. Go out and enjoy Denver. Hell I would go to the Red Sox game there tonight.
Go get you some Elk tenders with rattlesnake chili, or maybe some MOOSE meatloaf. Take your pick, classic Denver cuisine. OR, if you are really desperate there are quite a few horses in the area that you might be able to snag for dinner (though illegally).

So... It's cedia time, when does Sony spill the beans?

MSRP?
Availability?
Try researching the other threads for timing details. Or if you can't figure out how to do that, google Cedia 2013 press conferences and learn when the Sony press conference is. And then also look up what day and time the Expo floor and booths open. Please post what you learn in the threads in this forum where such info has previously been posted. wink.gif I am going gentler on you than I should because you only have 3000 plus posts on AVS. smile.gif

Sony's press release.

Sony VPL-VW600ES 4K Home Theater Projector

The VPL-VW600ES home theater projector, like the VW1100 and VW1000 models offers Full Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI)-based 4096 x 2160 resolution, delivering a cinematic 4K experience. The VPL-VW600ES projector boasts 1,700 ANSI-lumens of brightness and a 200,000:1 contrast ratio. The projector has rich color reproduction thanks to TRILUMINOS™ display, an enhanced optical engine design, and auto-calibration and manual color correction features to allow installers to adjust the hue, saturation and brightness to obtain and maintain a customized picture quality. Also, meeting the latest HDMI® standard, it supports 4K native resolution at 60 frames per second. Dramatically improving the viewers’ experience, the Reality Creation engine for 4K upscaling enhances both the “Mastered in 4K” Blu-ray Discs and high definition 1080p content including 3D video.

The VPL-VW600ES sports a compact, installation-friendly design, offering technology integrators and end-users more options for placement, especially in replacement situations. New features such as front-exhaust, a 2.06x powered zoom lens, and a wide lens shift range provide further installation flexibility and remarkable performance in nearly every screening room. For 3D viewing, the VW600 includes a built in RF transmitter which conforms to the “Full HD 3D Initiative” industry standard and uses the same glasses as Sony’s 3D Bravia televisions. Available in November for $14,999.99, this projector is optimized to work with Video Unlimited 4K, which is only available in the US. It may also be purchased as a package that includes a Sony FMP-X1 4K Ultra HD Media Player and a Sony Xperia Z Tablet for $15,999.99.

“Sony knows from our experience in the custom install channel that not every screening room will be part of a new construction, but we also know that home projector enthusiasts are eager to bring 4K entertainment home,” said Andre Floyd, manager in Sony Electronics’ Home Front Projector Group. “The innovative design and proven technology in the VPL-VW600ES allows us, with our Custom Install Solutions channel partners, to deliver the cinema experience to more homes than ever before.”

Outch, the USA pricing MSRP is confirm at 15k eek.gif

I hope the street price will be much lower than that.

Strange, because here in Canada the 500ES can be pre-order for way less than that.
Yeah that $15k MSRP is a little too high for me, let's hope the street price is around $10k or under(which I doubt.)

Agree. Very fustrating for US buyer.

Why Sony is selling this projector for more in the US?

Does the US dealer put pressure on Sony to do so?

At some point, Sony will have to provide answer...
Yeah I think I will pass, too. The value just isn't there.
Surprising indeed!

I was expecting the US price to be below the $13,500 canadian price, maybe along the lines of $13K, but $15K!!

There must be something more that is being put into the 600ES vs 500ES model we get?

As said a million times. IT WILL NOT STREET THAT LOW..... It will be higher than $10k. For those suprised by the price I don't understand why as we've basically known $15k for weeks now.
We were hoping Sony would pull their head out of their A$$... eek.gif And Listen to the Market.
Just order from Canada biggrin.gif Will the warranty still be valid in the USA if the unit was purchased in Canada?
15K converted to street may, in effect, be too expensive for many here but it is specious to conclude that the "value isn't there."
Nope. For me its the value.

I sold my 1000. Was interested in what might replace it and wanted to get out ahead of the possible big drop in the 1000's used price. I have about enough to buy the 1100es at list saved up in a projector fund. Doubt I will buy either the 1100 or the 600 though, at this point. I thought something a little more revolutionary might be coming to the 1100. So yes, for ME, its not too expensive to purchase, but the value isn't there. At around 9-10k street, it would have been a contender. Now I may just buy something in the $5k range and wait a year. I have been without a projector for a month or so now, I am pretty ready to just get something to tide me over until something is announced that knocks my socks off.
Now it seems clear to me the VPL-VW600ES is aimed only at the custom installer. Once again us do it yourselves is left out in the cold.
