The black level of my Pioneer KRP-500M has gotten worse and worse

Purchased and professionally calibrated in 2009, I was happy with it for a few years. Then I started to notice the black levels getting worse.

At first I thought it was my imagination, but now "black" is more like a glowing, darkish grey. To make matters worse, there seems to be a noticeable tinge of the color red mixed into the murkiness of the glowing, dark grey.

It has come down to the point where I no longer watch blu-ray movies or play PS3 games because I'm so disappointed with the poor, slightly reddish black level.

Can someone please tell me it's possible that my 500M be professionally calibrated back to its original deep, inky blacks?

Contact D-Nice he can lower the blacks and remove the red tint.

Thanks for replying. I wasn't sure it was possible. Thank you for confirming. I did contact D-nice several weeks ago. I'm just waiting for him to get back to me.

He might be able to.lower the blacks if he replies. I've waited on him for two months and still no reply.

I know he can definitely help you on the black levels. As for the red tint, I'm not so sure. I'm sure it can be masked a bit but it can't be removed fully without voltage changes from what I have read. For the record, mine had the exact same issues that you are describing.

frown.gif That's disheartening to know.

Do you guys know offhand if D-nice is the only professional calibrator who is able to lower the rising black level (and possibly eliminate the reddishness of the blacks) of the 9G Pioneer Kuro? I know he's the best, but what if, for whatever reason, I'm unable to acquire his services? Are there other pro calibrators who can do it?

He did it for me and as far as I know, he is the only one with the software from Pioneer to do it. He can be kind of hard to get a hold of though.

I think he is the only one.

Is there supposed to be a point to the above post?

My guess is that apparently he's the only one yet he's impossible to get ahold or to get a calibration done by.

I'm having the same issue as well. Grayish blacks and red glow.

This is the famous reddish tint issue that a lot of Kuro owners have experienced. There is a thread on avs about this. There is no way to fix it other than resetting the voltages which is not a good idea. My old 6020 had the same problem.
