need help, horrible image burn with hdmi use only

i just bought a used 40" insignia plasma at a garage sale, the image is absolutely awesome, until i plug in my pc via hdmi. once the tv is receiving an hdmi signal it appears to have severe image burn, but ONLY when playing through hdmi. i have switched out the cables, as well as using a different hdmi port on the set. i even went as far as using an all-together different pc, but it still shows a dark "dirty" shadow horizontally across the screen. the line is uneven is very splotchy, with darker and lighter spots, it's mostly visible on light colored areas, but is easily seen while watching a movie.

the most odd part about it though, is i have been running the burn repair tool on the tv, and it appears to be fixing it? it has gradually started to look better and better, but maybe that's just me getting my hopes up? as soon as i turn on the menu the image is PERFECT. you can clearly see that there is no longer any shadow or burn or whatever one might call this.

my apologies if this is in the wrong forum, im a total noob here and a total noob to big screens and plasma's in general. anybody have any idea what this is or what might fix it? i cant imagine the panel itself is going out since it displays a working image constantly until you plug in an hdmi cable?

i just wanted to add, that i moved the set to my study and the issue is much less noticeable. when playing through my ps3 via hdmi it is hardly seen at all; yet while it is still in the other room, if i run the burn fix tool the shadow is still visible, but only when running the tool? i'm wondering if there is some sort of interference due to a high load in my bedroom, i have a maxed out 16 plug power strip plus a few other cables all running at once in my bedroom at almost all times. any help is greatly appreciated, as i am strongly considering taking it back to the previous owners house and demanding a refund.

thanks guys!

I wonder if the set has retained different settings for different inputs, as in, when you're using an HDMI input the set was configured to be in 'Movie' mode, and everything is turned up bright, and using other inputs it was configured to be in 'Standard' mode?
