Once Upon A Time in Wonderland ABC HD Thursday, October 10

ABC takes viewers down the rabbit hole with this "Alice in Wonderland"-inspired new drama. In this telling, Alice (Sophie Lowe) is seen as troubled and potentially insane, but before her doctors can do anything to erase her memories of Wonderland, the White Rabbit (John Lithgow) and the Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha) save her for a journey back to the fantastical place she remembers.

With Lithgow in it, I'll give it a shot and see what happens ..

Did anyone watch this?

I didn't care for it but my wife wants to watch it another time or two to see if it's worth continuing. I'm ready to give up on the regular Once Upon A Time and I don't see "Wonderland" being any better.

My impression is that most of the characters (other than the protagonists, and I'm not so sure about them) are not very nice people. I'm not sure I want to watch that kind of program, although I expect to give it another try.

Looks like Alice got some fight training from Black Widow.

I 'll stick with it for now.

The show definitely needs some work in the CG department, I know Wonderland is supposed to be a fantasy land, but all the wide shots just looked bad. In the preview for next week, it looks like they get outside the green screen studio a little more, so I will give it another shot.

Really crappy effects. I'm not thrilled with the premise. Why should I care if this chick finds her boyfriend? And I really couldn't understand why the Nave cared, either. If he wanted Alice, then I could see him help her, while hoping they never find him. But there was no indication he wants Alice himself. He claimed he really did not want to be there, and even that some might want to kill him. Yet he didn't take much convincing to stay.

And what time period is it? The mental hospital, and the way the doctors acted, looked to me like they were in the 1800's, or at least early 1940's or 50's. But when the nave was in Storybrook, it was obviously present day.

Also not a fan of the 80lb chick who can clobber five 200lb guys with one hand tied behind her back. That's been done to death by now.

There were too many (pardon the pun) holes well. When they were on the cliff, why didn't genie bf just poof Alice and himself away? If he needed it wished, she could have just wished it.

With the original Once, I immediately cared about Emma. I enjoyed seeing all the fairy tale characters in a modern environment. It brought all these characters into a completely new story.

But after one episode, there was not a single character I care about. And why does this queen hate Alice so much? It looks like it may be just one new Alice adventure, rather than a completely new story like the original Once.

I'll give it a few episodes b4 quitting. My threshold is pretty low. I made it through both The Following and Under The Dome.

Jafar was an interesting choice for a vilian.

I did wonder about the choice of name. Where's his forehead tattoo? wink.gif

I didn't realize the name had been used in Aladdin until I looked it up just now. Presumably that's the actual source.

I gave up on Once Upon a Time a season and half ago but I did enjoy this variation. I hope they can keep it fresh.

Season Pass for now.....

TV by the numbers has this one down for certain cancellation.

Did they list their reasons?

After only one episode? Seems odd for a spinoff of a very popular program, you'd think the execs would give it more chance than that.....I agree so far(after just the pilot) it's no OUT but I think it holds some promise smile.gif

This question was going to be brought up sooner or later but who would win in a magical duel, Jafar or Rumple? biggrin.gif

After this weeks episode I'm seriously reconsidering the Season Pass. Most people in the family just aren't into the whole Alice in Wonderland thing, I think we'll give it one more episode, that is unless the execs beat us to the punch and cancel it biggrin.gif Sure doesn't hold the interest like OAT.

I barely made it through the first episode. It has too much ABCness. Heavy on the glamor and cheesy romance and light on everything else.

Yeah, I bailed after episode 1.

I normally give a show 3 episodes, but I just couldn't stick with this one.

Great looking visuals, high production values .. weak otherwise ..

Again, why should I care whether Alice is reunited with her BF? Had they made it "How can Alice figure out how to return to Wonderland", or, "How can she escape Wonderland", that would have interested me. But I know nothing about her romance or her BF, yet I'm asked to immediately care.

OG "Once" started with how wonderful life was in he Enchanted Forrest (or wherever they were), and then it was taken away. So the goal was, "how do they break the curse"? But this show is as if they started with "how do they break the curse", with no reference to why we should care.

Also, I think the special effects are horrible. Two more episodes for me.

I agree, the animation(which they seem use at every turn) is extremely fakey. Standing next to the "lake" or even on the "giant turtle" looked like a cartoon to me. Two more episodes is generous to me, I'll give it one more and I think thats even generous.

Kind of a boring version of Wonderland so far. Where's the wackiness?
One episode was all it took for me to drop.

Weak story so far. She has the ability to use three wishes but hasn't used them yet. Sayid, I mean Jafar is still looking for the bottle,LOL

Season Pass gone for me, life is too short to watch just "OK" TV...I have a feeling it won't be around that much longer anyway.
Good luck to those of you who hand in smile.gif

The first couple seasons of Once Upon a TIme were my must see show. Even though we still watch it, it has declined significantly. The story line just got used up. This new Alice version we watched for the two episodes. Extremely disappointed. Poor cast, poor writing, poor storyline. May hang in for a tad longer but most likely I am done...assuming it is not cancelled first.

Some folks in my fam really loved the first season of OUAT and talked us into watching it. So we caught up via Netflix. And it was great fun, really enjoyed it. But the second season started becoming a chore and we ended up forcing ourselves to watch it by the end. Had no interest in any more of it this season (nor in the spinoff). I think that's a good way to put it: the storyline just got used up.

Not much going on as far as thread activity here ..

I quit OUAT original this season because it was just spinning off into boredom for me .. too disjointed and I guess the novelty wore off for me ..

Stacking OUAT in Wonderland on the DVR currently .. have not watched any of it yet ..

Thoughts from you that have .. ??

I don't know which one is worse, Once Upon a Time in Neverland or Wonderland, they use the same techniques, but I think Wonderland has some awful CGI, I can't stand the rabbit, if it weren't for Lithgow...

I still enjoy some eye candy form the Red Queen/Anastasia, some LOST memories from Sayid, that's it..

They turned the Knave to stone. Next victims: The audience.
Guess I'm finally done.
