Been away... built crazy sound+video bike!

I've been away from AVS for a while. I would check in and browse the threads periodically, but I wasn't building any speakers so I wasn't posting much. I miss you guys! However, my schedule is clearing up, so I will be building my SEOS-15 / DNA-360 / TD-15M towers soon. :-)

While I was away, I built a mobile interactive LED video wall for Burning Man. Two of us built the whole thing. :-) It's a 4-wheel e-bike with a ~8.7x4.4 foot LED video screen, a Kinect sensor, and custom software. The resolution is just 160x80, but that's enough to show video clips and dancing figures. And it's BRIGHT -- almost 4000 watts when fully "on" (but usually ~1000 watts).

I meant to build speakers for it, too, but we ran out of time so I picked up a single powered PA speaker. The PA speaker failed, so we ended up using one of the Econowave SRs that is normally part of my camp's sound system. We spent most of our time at sound camps, so we didn't need the on-board sound very much anyway.

We neglected to take many pictures, but it was captured on some videos that people posted to YouTube. Our art car (bike) is called the Wall of Light, and it is the bright rectangular screen in the crowd in the videos. Here's a video playlist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM3jzDAJZgA&list=PLouGljuqfrLoSnqneDjZRQGbqxF1KZRud

I will definitely be watching this one, that is one of the combos that I will be building eventually.

Very cool bike... have always wanted to attend Burning Man, bucket list I guess.

I'm also sitting on parts for LCR's of your same combo, If's those TD15m's of yours are 4 ohm.
Will these be passive like your current center, Ported (towers...) or sealed?
I'll be watching along,

My TD15Ms are 8ohm. They will eventually be passive, but they might be active first. smile.gif I think that I will build them ported, but I'm not 100% sure yet.

Me too

Max, are you going to use dual TD15Ms? Btw, what's the difference between TD15M & TD15X?

the m is higher sensitivity, less excursion.

the x is medium sensitivity, high excursion.

m is better for midrange duties, while the x is better for full range bass duties.

Mine will use a single td15m per speaker. I already built the center speaker, but the l and r will be slightly different. I might end up building a new cab for the center and making them all identical, though.

I am looking forward to seeing this build come to life! I had been planning on doing a Seos-15 + BMS4550 + JBL2226 but I am unfortunately low on funds. I already have the BMS drivers, and I had planned on getting the JBL's last week, but my grandmother took a turn for the worse, so I had slow down to part-time at work so that I could take care of her.
