Review Your Video Games, Win an Amazon Shopping Spree!

post #1 of 100
Thread Starter

If you own some video games, here's your chance to tell the world how much you enjoy them—or not—and possibly win one of three Amazon gift cards.

First prize is $300

Second and third prizes are $100 each

To enter, all you have to do is post a separate review of each video game, and post a link to each review in a separate comment in this thread. You can post as many reviews and links as you like—the more you post, the greater your chances of winning! However, be sure to post the link to each review in a separate comment. Three of the reviews will be selected at random as the winners after verifying their eligibility.

What makes a review eligible?

1) The review must be submitted between September 10 and September 24, 2013, on a product within the AVS Video Games category;

2) The review must contain a title, overall rating stars, pros, cons, and a minimum 100-word body;

3) The review must be new, original work and not republished, in whole or in part, from another location on AVS Forum or elsewhere on the Internet;

4) AVS Forum reserves the right to disqualify reviews of very low quality at our discretion. Be thorough and helpful to your readers, and use good punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Also, divide your comments into several paragraphs; it's very difficult to read one long paragraph.

Never written a review on AVS Forum before? It's easy! Click here for a tutorial. To summarize, first go to the Video Games product page and click on "Add Item" in the upper right. Next, enter the title of your game into the search box, then click on the product in the resulting list. (Be sure to select the one that corresponds to the platform you use, such as PlayStation 3 or Xbox.) Finally, click on "Write a Review" in the upper right of that product's page, and input your review. It doesn't matter if someone else has already reviewed the same game; we love multiple perspectives!

The most important things to cover in the main body are:

1) How good is the story?

2) How good are the graphics, music, sound effects, dialog?

3) How good is the gameplay?

4) How good is the audio and video quality?

So what are you waiting for? Fire up your game console and play some games, then submit your reviews and post links to them in this thread for a chance to win a shopping spree on Amazon!

Eh, the more time that passes, the more I skip most of the text in reviews and go right to the score. If something seems off, I look for a brief explanation, but I've started looking more for brevity in my reviews, and in the ones I write as well. Good idea though.

100 words min is pretty brief. I've done one so far and even at the 350-ish it came out to it's still brief. Just the first of many though and it's a bad game so I wasn't going to write a huge thing on it anyway.

I would love to write a PC game review, but there doesn't appear to be a PC category to submit one to. There are Xbox One and PS4 categories two months before any games will be available, but none for PC. Is there any way to get a PC category added? Thanks.

Agreed ... I play on both, but only on console when it simply isn't available for the PC.

I misspoke when I posted that particular copy, which is now revised to include game consoles only. I'm afraid a PC game category cannot be added at this point; the reason is somewhat technical and "back-endy." Suffice to say we cannot add a PC games category for this contest, but we hope you also have a console you can use to review some games.

For a community obsessed with the best audio and visual experience, not to have a PC Games section brings a tear to my eye frown.gif
I'm mostly a PC gamer and do most of it on my PC, only when an exclusive comes out on a console do I buy it, even then I'll be skipping the PS4 and XO.
You should really look into fixing that back end wink.gif

I guess I had better wrap up my second Tales of Xillia run to get the full story and write up a review.

Edit: Why wait, here is my review.

You can still write them and put it under a console. Even some of the games on both consoles only have one console listed. They should probably be just listed as the game and if there's a problem with a specific version (See: Bayonetta on PS3) it can be noted in the review.

I'm having trouble adding games, after I click add item and put in the game name the game appears, but when I click save and continue on the category page it says "looks like this item has a similar name to another item" what do I need to do?

I've asked the techs to look into why that one is not adding.

Thanks

I couldn't find a page for Dragon's Dogma or it's follow up Expansion/Complete edition Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen on PS3. Do I just add one for each?

I plan on writing a review for Dark Arisen once I finish up my Ni No Kuni review. (It would also apply to the original Dragon's Dogma as I plan on having a seperate section for the added content and UI improvements from Dark Arisen)

Considering the PC era has been around the SAME TIME as consoles (with 8-bit machines: Apple ][, C64, Atari 800 being the golden 80's era of gaming), and later the PC such as 386, 486, Pentiums _pushing_ the technical boundaries of what was even possible (386: Wing Commander, 486: Doom, Ultima Underworld, Pentium: Quake, Magic Carpet) to today's famous "But can it run Crysis?" to gauge the Performance of a gaming PC, to dismiss the PC gaming platform is total bullocks. mad.gif i.e. https://www.google.com/search?q=gtx+titan+scaling+4+way

In the past, PCs and Console have leap-frogged one another. There is a reason the Xbone and PS4 both are using a X86 CPU.

I will be reviewing games that are on BOTH platforms: PC _and_ console to cover this massive oversight.

Disgrunted ex-PC & Console game developer with professional games shipped on PC and PS1, PS2, Wii, DS.
