Here is what I would get for $4000:
Klipsch RB-81 II
(2) Rythmik FV15
This gives you Audyssey XT32 and SubEQ, plenty of dynamics for movies, and plenty of deep articulate bass.
I really like that system, however Rythmik no longer sells the vanilla FV15 anymore, just the FV15HP. However, the FV15HP would not be a bad substitute in that system! I think another great sub for just over $1k would be this big guy
. The drivers used in that are very high quality, and the cabinet is absolutely inert (it weighs a ton), so the sound quality should be razor sharp. There is also the kit version of that dual driver sub
, where a little bit of assembly can save you $150.
Here is another under $4k 2.2 that will kill:
Harman Kardon 3490 stereo receiver
Pi Three speakers, with lacquer finish
Hsu VTF3 mk4 dual drive
It gives up some bass headroom and room equalization for some pretty heavy duty dynamics. You would also want to add a high pass filter to that setup though. Altogether it would come in under $4k shipped.
